The Classic Ballet Shoe

So how wonderful is this weather we've been having the last few days?!!!! What on earth is going on, surely we can't have had our 'summer' last week?!!!

Now I don't know about you but in view of the downpours that we've recently been getting my new summer sandals aren't exactly getting a lot of wear this season & whilst there are some gorgeous sandals around it seems madness to buy anymore because if this weather continues my feet are either going to get frostbite with the cold or develop webbing with all this wet weather!

And as much as I'm inclined to do a blog on wellies or even boots for that matter I am trying hard to resist after all if we start wearing boots now what have we got to look forward to come the arrival of autumn?!!

So with all the above in mind the one piece of footwear that I seem to get a ton of wear out of is the ballet shoe.  Now as you may have realised from my various outfit pictures I have quite a selection of said ballet shoes even if I say so myself.  For me they are just the perfect shoe that can be worn all year round, are easy to walk in & reduces my risk of falling/tripping over plus if you go for the classic shape they'll never go out of fashion & they look absolutely fab teamed with a pair of jeans and blazer (my staple wardrobe).  On top of this I have found the most fab shop in Palma which when holidaying in Majorca I just have to visit as they have ballet shoes in virtually every colour you can think of & I usually go with a shopping list from my Mum and Sister too they're that good & comfy (whoops sign of age I know but needs must!!).

In my view there are several shades of ballet shoe that in my eye are just classics & are great for having in your wardrobe as they'll go with a whole team of colours.  The first being a nude/tan pair.  Now there are a whole heap of ballet shoes around so I've chosen a selection from the high street which hopefully cover most budgets.

First up is this fab pair from Next which for £26 for a pair of leather shoes is a steal & being nude will simply go with everything.

They are also available in Navy & Black should you be looking for a darker pair.

This next pair would be my favourite of the ones I've seen in a nude/light tan finish.  Yes they are a lot more but they're simply devine.  I have to admit that I haven't got any ballet shoes with a more square finish at the toe (sounds like a good enough excuse read reason to me to get hitting that button!) but I still think this is a classic style & the colour is just gorgeous.  I have got a couple of pairs from Majorca in this snake print finish & the beauty of this finish is that they really don't mark or scratch as easily & are also available in either a red (which is a great way to add a splash of colour to your outfit) or a dark tan/brown.

If you fancy something a little more two tone how about this buckle design ballet shoe from M&S?  And as a plus it's from their Footglove range which should mean very comfy & happy toes :)

As you will see in my outfit two picture I also have a silver sequin/sparkly pair which I brought from Zara last year.  They're a great pair for slipping on when I want to dress up or pretty up an outfit & they really do add that little bit something to an outfit.  Similar in design are these ones from Wallis.

Now one colour I am missing in my ballet shoe collection is a soft gold which I am on the hunt for this year either in the sales or whilst on holiday.  I really like this soft shade of gold & it looks fab teamed with a tan, will go with absolutely everything & like the embellished Wallis ones just adds a little something to an outfit.

I really love these ones from John Lewis & they're a great price but they are synthetic so I would worry that my feet aren't going to be as comfy (gosh that's three times I've used this word in this blog alone - middle age is definitely approaching lol!) which could mean I wouldn't wear them as much.

A slightly different shade but gorgeous none the less are these ones from Hobbs & whilst more than the ones from John Lewis would no doubt be kinder on the feet!.

I also love ballet shoes in this pewter shade, again they'd go with every colour & these ones from Mint Velvet are lovely.

If you don't fancy the whole of your shoe being metallic how about these ones, also from Mint Velvet which look fab in the velvet & metallic.

As I mentioned earlier a bright pair of ballet shoes is a great way for injecting a bit of colour into your outfit & these ones from Pretty Ballerina which are available on the John Lewis website are lovely.  They would really add a little something to a pair of boyfriend jeans & Breton top.

For more of a statement pair of ballet shoes how about these giraffe pony skin ones from Mint Velvet, just stunning.

Of course my absolute must have for a pair of ballet shoes is leopard print (confession time I have several different ones) as I just luuuurve them.  No surprise there then, what can I say Bet slips into most blogs  but hey that's just me & I love teaming mine with some skinny jeans a great blazer & white shirt.  Just stunning in my Bet-inspired opinion!

These ones from Next are a great price.  For me if you're getting a pair of leopard print shoes they HAVE to be in the pony skin as I think they just look that little bit more expensive & classy.

These ones from Mint Velvet are also gorgeous but quite a bit more in price.

Finally I love snakeskin ballet shoes too.  I have a lovely pair in tans and cream from Majorca but this year I will definitely be on the look out for a pair in grey & if I don't succeed then I may just have to get finger happy & click on this gorgeous pair from Mint Velvet which are also available in black.

A little bit more in price are these ones from Hobbs which are also stunning & have the squared toe as opposed to the classic rounded shape.

And finally this two tone pair from Geox which would be perfect for teaming with a cream pair of jeans/trousers for the summer.

In fact there is so much choice at the moment that it was impossible to show all the lovely ballet shoes available, so if you fancy some in a slightly different colour or finish then click on this Mint Velvet link or have a look at the Hobbs collection.

And I'll leave you with the fact that I've just found out from our new postie that I was referred to as Mrs eBay by our old postman due to all the parcels that arrive :S oops but hey what's a girl to do?!!!

As always I love reading your comments x

  1. I'm trying so hard o stick with sandals as it is 'summer'. I love sandals and I love boots, for me ballets are an inbetween shoe. I love how they look on other people bit I'm never quite sure on me (think its because I'm so short!). Lynne x

    2. Lynne you can always wear ballet pumps even if you're short-If you're afraid of looking like a child when you're not in heels, just make sure your outfit is sophisticated -'grown up' -blazers with jeans, stylish fitted dresses, V necklines to elongate your torso..mimicking Jane's style you can't go wrong. 2. My new found love is ballet flats, even if they do make my shortish legs look shorter! I strive for comfort, nowadays, as well as hitting the fashion button. I have the next leopard print ones but, bizarrely, they cause my big toe, on my right foot, to go a bit numb? gawd knows what that is all about. I love all your' looks, Jane, as you know. You wear jackets like no one else can. x Helen
