Jumpsuit Styleeee!!!

So following on from my last blog on my latest love of the jumpsuit, as promised here’s a few suggestions on how to style one.

First up & confession time…….I’m currently writing this post while flying out on hols so have yet to wear my jumpsuit ‘for real’ & instead have taken a few quick pictures before we flew out on how I plan to style mine.  Hopefully by the time we return from our hols I'll have worn it at least a couple of times & fingers crossed may have even caught the odd ray or two!!!

So I’ve started with a picture of just my Zara Jumpsuit on it’s own, so you can see exactly what it looks like before my inner magpie has added the bling & accessories.  Of course it looks just fine like this without the addition of a single thing.  But one of the main reasons I chose to go for a plain black one is because it also makes it easier to personalise & make it your own.  Which is always a benefit when buying something off the high street as of course there’s the chance you’ll bump into someone wearing the exact same one or similar, but by adding accessories the chances of seeing someone wearing the exact same accessories as well are slim.  Although of course now I’ve said this, the chances of this now happening to me have probably greatly increased!!!!

Style One

Jumpsuit - Zara

Now if you’re not an accessories junkie like myself you may just want to add a few minimal pieces, so in this second picture I’ve opted to add a few metallic accessories which I think always look great when paired with black.

I’ve added a gold plaited belt from Banana Republic, my block heeled ballet shoes from Zara for a bit of height & my J Crew classic pave bracelet.  Of course you could just as easily make the accessories silver or a bright pop of colour, maybe red or even yellow.

As you know I’ve got a love of all things gold at the moment & I just feel it adds that little something to the black jumpsuit.  Plus if you’re feeling a little self-conscious at wearing an all in one you’ll find the belt helps break it up & makes you feel as if you’re wearing separates.

Style Two

Jumpsuit - Zara
Bracelet - J Crew
Belt - Banana Republic
Shoes - Zara

OMG as I’m typing this blog a horrible though has just crossed my mind…..what happens when I need the loo?!!!!  I had sooooo not thought of this & although my jumpsuit has a side zip from just under the bust to the hip it also has buttons to do up at the back which when trying on I just got hubby to do.  But seeing as my son is now WAY TOO old to accompany me to the loo it looks like either I’m going to have to do some seriously leg crossing (thank goodness it’s baggy on the tum so people won’t see the old bladder protruding) or take an absolute age in the toilet trying to do the buttons up from behind which run from the top to my lower back.  Now this in itself will be easier said than done but if there’s only the one loo people are SO going to be wondering what I’m doing in there….oh my I’m already cringing!!!!

Okay deep breath, I’ll just have to cross this problem when I need to…..I so love my jumpsuit  that I’m not going to let it put me off….even if it could prove interesting!!!

Right swiftly moving on....for my second look I’ve added my New Look pendant & a denim jacket to the gold accessories, which I think dresses down the outfit & makes it perfect for wearing on an every day basis.

Style Three

Denim Jacket - Zara
Jumpsuit - Zara
Necklace - New Look
Belt - Banana Republic
Bracelet - J Crew
Shoes - Zara

Next up Bet has barged her way into this outfit with the additional of a large leopard print scarf, some chunky bracelets & my leopard print stud sandals.  I really think flats look great teamed with the jumpsuit, which is a good job really seeing as I’ve decided to be ‘sensible’ on our hols & not bring any heels…..although saying that I’ve already had to add a plaster when waiting in departures as my sandals had managed to cause a blister on my heel….can you believe it & they're not even new!!!

Again this outfit is just perfect for a dressed down daytime look & personally you won’t be surprised to hear that I don’t think you can ever go wrong by adding a bit of leopard print to a plain black outfit!!

Style Four

Jumpsuit - Zara
Scarf - Zara
Bracelets - Banana Republic
Leopard Print Studded Sandals - Zara

Of course while on our hols I’m hoping it’s going to be far too hot to want to roll out a scarf so for my next look I’ve kept the studded leopard print sandals & just added a chunky gold necklace.

Style Five

Jumpsuit - Zara
Necklace - Massimo Dutti
Bracelets - Mango & Banana Republic
Leopard Print Studded Sandals - Zara

If you wanted to add a bit more detail you could also add a wide belt.  So to tie in with the studs on my sandals I’ve added my H&M elasticated studded one.  Which you will probably have noticed I practically live in.  It’s such a great belt for adding to an outfit & being elasticated means it always fits & I find it just helps to finish an outfit off & tie separates together.  I can’t tell you just how useful I find this kind of belt in fact the other night while getting the clothes ready for the hols I altered another elasticated studded belt that was just that little bit too big for me.  So after prising off some of the studs & sewing the elastic part of the belt together to make it smaller I’ve hopefully now got have another belt to wear for a bit of variety!!

Style Six

Jumpsuit - Zara
Necklace - Massimo Dutti
Leopard Print Bracelet - Banana Republic
Studded Belt - H&M
Print Studded Sandals - Zara

Next up & again it’s more gold accessories (see I don’t lie when I said I’m currently gold obsessed!) & my new Zara leather biker jacket, which I managed to bag in the sale.  I’m absolutely delighted with this as I’ve been looking for a leather biker jacket for a good twelve months now but hadn’t found one I liked the look of once I tried it on.  But this one must have been meant to be as not only do I still love it when on, it was also heavily reduced & it’s made from the most glorious soft quilted leather that I’m sure will be one of my staples come the winter.

I’ve also teamed it with the gold hi-tops that I’d also been admiring from a far for a while from Zara & again managed to get once reduced.

Style Seven

Jumpsuit - Zara
Leather Biker Jacket - Zara
Necklace - Mango
Bracelets - Banana Republic & Mango
Gold Hi-tops - Zara

My last two styles are a variation on a theme.  Now as you’ll already know I love a great little jacket/blazer & a jumpsuit is a great addition to team one of my many jackets with for a more smarter/evening occasion.  Sling on a stunning pair of heels & a clutch & you’re good to go in my opinion.

Now of course any colour jacket is going to look great with black but I particularly like the Chanel style for teaming with a pair of heels for evening.  Although I’d also like to try mine with my black tuxedo & maybe my sequined Mango cardi too.

For the first outfit I’ve added some plain black court shoes with my cream Massimo Dutti jacket, a thin black studded belt (which can just about be seen) & some J Crew bling.

Style Eight

Jumpsuit - Zara
Necklace - J Crew
Jacket - Massimo Dutti
Bracelets - J Crew & J Crew
Studded Belt - New Look
Shoes - Zara

I’ve then swapped the jacket in my second outfit for a red boulce jacket, some red leopard print court shoes & some statement pearls.

Style Nine

Jumpsuit - Zara
Necklace - Zara
Jacket - Zara
Red Leopard Print Shoes - Zara

So there you have a few ideas on how to get the most wear out of your jumpsuit.  Of course when the weather’s glorious it’s perfect for just wearing with a statement necklace but come the darker & cooler months add a jacket & you can not only transform your look it also means you can wear it all year round so in my eyes a double result!!!

And finishing with a quick round up of what I’ve been wearing for the first few days of our holidays, starting with my outfit for travelling.

Outfit One

Sequinned Cardigan - Mango
Necklace - New Look
Blue Camisole - Zara
Cigarette Jeans - Zara
Gold Sandals - Zara

Outfit Two

Panama - Brought in Majorca several years ago
Beach Cover Up - Next
Sunglasses - Ralph Lauren
Bikini - River Island

Outfit Three

Dress - New Look
Sandals - M&S

So what do you think?  Have I given you any new ideas for what to pair with your jumpsuit or perhaps I’ve missed the most obvious choice?!!! I’d love to hear your thoughts & know which outfit you like best together with of course any other ideas on how to style it.

Right I’m off to go & catch some more rays & chillax just that little bit more.  Have a good few days & I’ll be back at the weekend with a blog on what I’ve been wearing so far on holiday. xx

Jump For My Love

So I have to admit if you'd have told me a year ago that I'd have been writing a blog let alone one on jumpsuits I wouldn't have believed you but guess what....that's exactly what I'm doing today!!!!

Now the last time I wore a jumpsuit I was about eleven/twelve (I think!!!) & it was across between dungarees & an all in one in a glorious royal blue colour.  I can remember admiring it in the mirror & noticing that you could just about see my bra strap through my white top (which I'd teamed with a large black necklace & matching bangle....for those of you that are interested!!), which at that stage being new to wearing a bra, meant I thought it was really 'cool' if you could see the straps as it MUST mean I was sooo grown up lol!!!!

Well you'll be pleased to hear some nearly thirty years later & I now don't think it cool to be able to see my bra strap but in place of thinking my bra strap means I look 'grown up', I'm more worried that the sight of my grey hairs means I am now well & truly passed it!!!

When jumpsuits first came back on the scene (& no I'm not including a onesie in this category....& you'll be pleased to hear I don't own one...not even a leopard print one!!!) I admired them from a far but thought that my time had truly come & gone for wearing one again in public.  However, I have secretly being lusting after a few in recent months & have decided for our summer holiday to take the plunge.  After all one of the beauties of a summer holiday is that you can try out new styles & things you may not normally wear at home in the confidence that you'll never see these people again....apart from of course if you're like us & go back to the same place each year to meet up with friends, as we have done the last three years....after all if you've found paradise & what works for you then why keep on looking!

Of course there are lots of different styled jumpsuits about in a variety of colours but because I wanted something that could be dressed up or down & was pretty classic I've decided to go for a black one.  So after making that tremendous decision you won't be surprised to hear that what followed was a lot of internet googling & drooling together with intensive research to find the perfect one out there, which wasn't too overpriced in case after a couple of wears I lost my nerve.

So before I show you 'the one' (& I'll bet you can't guess where it's from ;-) !!!), here's my round of the ones that made it onto my shortlist.

Starting with this monochrome halterneck jumpsuit from ASOS.  Which is just stunning, in a real classic design & has the added advantage that due to the neckline there's no need for any statement necklace.  Just layer a few great bracelets & bangles with some great heels & a fabulous clutch & you're good to go.

If perhaps you don't fancy the monochrome vibe, they also do the same jumpsuit in black & nude which is just that little bit different in colouring to most of the jumpsuits out there, so is a sure fire way of standing out from the crowd but still in a classic & stylish way.

Or if halterneck's aren't your thing, or if you fancy an all black jumpsuit then ASOS also do this great bandeau styled one for £50.  Which would look amazing teamed with a statement necklace.

But if you don't feel comfortable in a strapless one then I really like the look of this silk jumpsuit from Topshop.  I think the spaghetti styled straps make it just that little bit more casual than the bandeau style plus of course the straps mean that you haven't got to worry about any embarrassing slips in the boob area......especially if you've got little ones who may tug on the top (which incidentally didn't happen to me but my sister at a wedding reception & no she wasn't wearing a bra!!!).

Of course you may prefer your top half to be more covered up, if so, I really like this draped jumpsuit from Topshop.  Which as I have mentioned in the past due to a draped neckline is so easy & flattering to wear.  Plus as an added bonus seeing as the shoulders are covered it means that you can wear a 'normal' bra as opposed to a strapless one or one of those multi-bras, which let's face it is never going to give you as good a shape or uplift that a normal bra can achieve.

Or if you find the drapes too much of a hassle & would rather have something a little bit more structured then this belted cross over jumpsuit from Warehouse would be perfect.

For those looking for something a little bit more racy then this navy jumpsuit from Zara is simply stunning.  I love the backless feature (as shown in the second picture) & the fact that it's navy as opposed to the many black ones out there.  Although personally it would have to be a VERY warm day/night before I would be warm enough to wear it.....which, on reading back makes me sound well & truly past it?!!!!

Another cross over designed jumpsuit is this elasticated waist one from Zara (well I was doing well not to mention them until this stage!!!), which I would personally team with a large belt to hide the elasticated waist & to add that bit more style & individuality.

And finally my numero uno & the one that made it into my wardrobe & more importantly my suitcase, this strapless one from Zara.  Now in my opinion this picture doesn't particularly do the jumpsuit justice.  I'm not a big fan of the shoes they've teamed it up with to be honest....love the shoes but not worn with the jumpsuit.  However, for what I was looking for.....it fits the bill perfectly, a classic investment that's not going to break the bank if I don't wear it as much as I think I might & with the right accessories & imagination perfect for dressing up or down.  Not to mention great for hiding a multitude of sins due to the looseness on the waist & hips meaning you can stuff yourself silly especially if going away on holiday ;-)

In fact I might for my next blog do a bit of a trying on/styling post showing the various ways I plan on wearing it so that I can get the maximum wears out of it before it becomes another golden oldie that's waiting to come back into fashion & urging me to blow the cobwebs off & drag it out from the depths of my wardrobe!!

But in the meantime here's a round up of what I've been wearing these last few days starting with...

So am I the last one to join the party in the revival of the jumpsuit or perhaps like me you've been secretly admiring from afar & have now taken the plunge too?  Perhaps you've packed a couple in your suitcase for you hols & are planning are breaking them out when incognito?!!

I'd love to hear your thoughts, which I know take time & effort in leaving but I really do love hearing your thoughts and views & appreciate all your comments.

Right I'm off to finish the last bit of holiday packing....Majorca here we come!!! Although just before writing this blog I have scoffed the most enormous Chinese meal so I don't know about bikini ready.....right now I'm thinking it's another HUGE positive tick for my jumpsuit as being looser on the waist/hips it will be perfect for hiding all those over indulgences that are going to happen on holiday....so on that alone a TOTAL must have in my book!!!!

Have a great couple of days & I'll be back in the next few days with my post on how to style a jumpsuit but in the meantime don't forget that you can follow me here on Twitter & here on Instagram, oh & if you fancy showing me your love like my Facebook page too by clicking here x

24 July 2013

Dilemma Time.....

Now as you may recall I have previously blogged about my problems in the shoe department, namely my inability to keep my feet in high heels until of course my discovery of toupee tape!!  So you would think that when going on holiday that with the mixture of heat & humidity my problems would just disappear.

Oh no!!  In fact not only can my legs develop ever lovely cankles, my feet can swell too!!!  Which when teamed with my claustrophobia & loathing of anything tight makes wearing shoes on holiday an absolute nightmare!!!

Factor in my ability to trip over the tiniest crumb, I mean seriously only I could nearly fall head first down a flight of stairs when wearing totally flat sandals on our way back to the car park on Sunday & no before you think it, it wasn't a result of too much presecco!!  All I can say is thank goodness I was holding hubby's hand otherwise I might have been readmitted to hospital 14 years to the day I was admitted for our son's birth!!!

Of course it's not for the love of trying...each year I will purchase a pair of fairly sensible heels that aren't of the skyscraper variety making sure they're not too narrow or pointy & will even wear them a few times before embarking on said holiday.  And each year when packing said shoes I'll declare to hubby that this year these are the ones....the ever elusive pair that will go with anything, that I can walk unaided in & will fit me on holiday no matter how swollen my feet get.  But each year I end up resembling one of the ugly sisters from Cinderella trying to either cram my swollen feet in or after 5 minutes of smug walking to dinner thinking I've cracked it develop painful blisters.

Now in my defence the hotel we stay at is a good 10-15 minute walk to the port & on the way back has a fair old hill to climb.  Plus of course you've got to factor in the uneven pavements & cobble stones along the way too.  So each year I gamely dig out my new summer heels & walk to the port for dinner only to hobble back with hubby & son both banning me for attempting the same fate (punishment) the next night.  I'll then spend the rest of the holiday when people watching (gosh don't you just love doing that on holiday?!!!) envious of all these stunning women I see sashaying before me in their stunning summer dresses teamed with pretty high heels.

Whilst I dare say I could take steps to overcome these problems....I'm thinking nightly bathing feet in surgical spirit 2 weeks prior to departure to 'toughen' them up I also have to secretly admit that when on holiday although I may wonder in awe at the women who can pull their high heels on, I'm quite happy just to sling on a pair of flat sandals & know that my feet are going to be happy.  Cause ladies let's face it if our feet our happy, we're happy & if we're happy everyone else is going to be happy too ;)

Of course that doesn't stop me hoping to stumble (no truer word has been said!!) across the perfect pair, so on that note I've taken a peak at what's available at the moment that fits with my criteria of happy feet & have to admit I've found a few pairs that could mean that this year I may have cracked it!!

Starting with these espadrille sandals from John Lewis.  Now I've tried wedges in the past, in fact last year I managed to travel there & back in a pair without too much injury but because of my heel slippage I need a pair that have an ankle strap.  I absolutely love these ones from John Lewis....a gorgeous colour that will go with everything with a sensible-ish heel, my only concern would be that quite a lot of the toe area is encased & with my fat feet at the best of times this could be a dis-aster darling!!! Luckily for me they are now only available online in a size 5 which is far to small for me even to contemplate squeezing my feet into.  Of course they might be available in store in my size but I'm going to be sensible & listen to the doubt in my mind...from a blister inducing point of view.

The next ones that crossed my radar are this gorgeous pair from Dune.  This time in a silver, which is again a great colour to go with everything.  A sensible sturdy & not too high heel (tick) & not too much strapping from a blister inducing/fat feet point of view (double tick).  I could be serious tempted by these babies had I not had a lovely strappy pair that were similar in design from the heel strap point of view, which some how & don't ask me how cause even I can't work it out my heels still managed to slip out of!  I mean seriously my heels should be called Houdini!!! I think it has something to do with the fact that the straps just cross over at the back & some how they slip down, although as I'm typing this I'm thinking toupee tape, so these could be a contender.

This next pair of gold sandals from Dune could also be promising as not only do they have lots of adjustable straps, they also have a small wedge heel so there'd be no tottering involved with this pair.

If however, you prefer a more dainty looking shoe, that isn't as expensive, then I really like these silver kitten heeled ones from Next, which I am VERY tempted to try.  A great price & a nice size heel too, if they're in stock I may just have to order these babies, although sadly they're not made of leather which may make them slightly harder on the feet.

Now of course not everyone wants a metallic pair, so if you prefer something a little different these gorgeous snake print ones from Kurt Geiger may just fit the bill.  Again not to much strapping with a small block heel & I LOVE the snake print!

Or for a nice pop of colour they're also available in yellow, which would look stunning when teamed with a tan.

Or at a far more affordable price how about these green ones from Zara?

Finally how about these block heel ballet shoes from Zara?  Now I have to admit these little beauties have already found a home in my wardrobe (see outfit 2).  I mean they tick all my boxes....my love affair with all things gold plus of course they're ballet shoes which I know suit my feet PLUS they have a great little block heel that even I can't (well at least I hope I can't!!) topple over in.  Add in the fact that they give you that all important boost in the leg slimming department & are made from leather then it makes them totally love at first sight in my eyes!  Plus of course being shoes & not sandals they can be worn all year round so cost per wear...well we're talking pennies surely?!!!

Finishing with my outfits from the past couple of days where by sheer fluke I happened to be wearing royal blue for the arrival of our new baby Prince!

As always I'd love to hear your thoughts x

21 July 2013

Temptations, Temptations........

Okay,  now in my defence I had planned to carry on with the theme of summer holidays & start looking at the best things to take on holiday but I have been sidetracked by the arrival of some of the new items to hit our stores.

Hard to believe I know but there I was minding my own business when the new H&M taster catalogue popped through the door.  Well you know what I'm going to say next don't you.....yup that's right I just had to take a quick peak (research purposes of course ;) ) before throwing it in the bin.  But you probably won't be surprised to hear that between a sneaky peak & throwing it in the bin there were a few gems that caught my eye!!! I mean I really must be a sales & marketing persons dream!!!

So first up is this lovely wraparound blouse.  Now hubby will be pleased to hear that I haven't ordered this, which I can't say is the case for everything here, but as much as I love it, it's very similar to a top I brought last year from Zara (no really?!!!).  But if I hadn't got my Zara one I would DEFINITELY be ordering this as I just love mine so much.  It's so easy to wear, can be dressed up with wax effect jeans or a leather skirt but on the same hand looks just as stunning dressed down & teamed with a pair of skinny jeans.  For me the thing I love the most about this design is the cross over style.  It makes me feel just that little bit more sexier than if I was wearing just a normal black blouse & creates a great neckline for teaming with a necklace or two.

They also do the same blouse in a white and black stripe if you fancy it but personally if you were going to order one, for me it would have to be the plain black as I think you would just find it so 'useful'!!!

Moving onto this khaki shirt,  now I know it doesn't look that much to look at but I'm thinking it may be worth a shot.  Personally I've been looking for the right khaki top for ages & I think this may just be it.  Obviously I may totally change my mind when having seen it in the flesh (a woman's prerogative & all that) but I want something that I can team with my black and khaki jeans that looks quite casual but has a sexy edge to it.  The description online says it's made from softly draping fabric so it may just be a keeper but we'll have to see.

Also in keeping with my new found love of tie-dye they also do the same shirt in a tie-dye pattern, which I think could look fab teamed with some black skinnies or even some white ones for the summer on cooler days.

Moving onto the next little number, which I have to confess my inner Magpie spotted instantly, is this sequined sweatshirt.  Now as you will know I have recently developed a love for all things gold & I have to admit this is no exception.  Again it depends how it looks in the flesh but I'm loving that they've teamed sequins with a sweatshirt top, which in my mind makes it easier for dressing up or down.  I'm thinking teamed with boyfriend jeans would look super cute & maybe even my combats.

In fact I love it sooo much I couldn't decide between the khaki with the gold sequins or the more subtle navy and blue sequins - hell if that's lovely I may be tempted to keep the two....but we'll see.

The next thing to catch my eye was this oversized top.  Again nothing particularly special but when teamed with some skinnies and a great necklace or scarf if could just prove to be one of those useful tops in your wardrobe that you wondered how you EVER managed to live without.  Of course to me it depends on what they mean by oversized.  Personally I would want it to be quite slouchy but in a slightly fitted way with a wide neckline that can fall off the one shoulder.  Obviously I'm expecting a lot from this top & for £7.99 it may not be anything like what I hoped but H&M do do those little beauties that can look nothing on the hanger but when worn look super stylish so I this may also have sneaked into my basket to try.

Then moving away from clothes & onto accessories & this fold away shopper, which I think will probably need no explanation as to why I love it.....I'll just say the word 'BET'!!!!  Of course it wasn't many years ago when we wouldn't dream of carrying round a handy foldaway shopping bag but these days they're essential & you of course won't be surprised to hear that anything leopard print is always a winner in my book!!

Next up is this patterned star scarf.  Now whilst even I haven't been tempted to reach for a scarf these last few weeks I'm sure it won't be long before we're once again wrapping them round our necks & I think this star one could look great teamed with some boyfriend jeans & a blazer for a dressed down kind of feel.

And finally I can't believe that they've started doing fashion tape.  Which of course is sold for the purpose of protecting your modesty but I'm thinking should also be strong enough for my tip of placing in the heels of your shoes to help avoid any slippage & the fact that it comes in a handy dispenser too, well let's just say I shall be stocking up on this by the lorry load.

Rounding off with my outfits from the last few days of continued glorious heatwave.

So what do you think of my first pick of the new H&M collection?  Do you like any of the items featured & are maybe even tempted to hit the 'buy me' button?!!!  Or perhaps due to this glorious weather you can't think beyond summer clothes for no?  Or of course maybe you've already hit some other stores for their new collection.  I'd love to hear your thoughts, I have to admit I've not started looking properly yet (skimming through a postal catalogue doesn't count....right?!!!) but give me a couple of weeks & I'm sure to have started scouring in earnest.

Right I'm off to celebrate our son's 14th birthday so lots of yummy food & bubbles for me.....which I can tell you right now is certainly not something I was doing right this moment 14 years ago!!!!  Let alone daydreaming of what outfit I would wear....lord no it was more a case of what I could fit into & bear to wear...seriously I was the size of a house but oh so DEFINITELY worth it :)

And on that note have a wonderful Sunday & next couple of days x
