Wedding Guest Challenge

I love a challenge so when Bonprix recently got in touch with me to see if I'd like to take part in a style challenge I was immediately intrigued but being honest thought I wouldn't find anything that I'd a) like & b) want to wear let alone recommend & feature on the blog, as I don't know about you but Bonprix is a catalogue company I'd written off long ago & not looked at since.

However, curiosity got the better of me as I've been surprised by brands before & I thought a quick peek at their website wouldn't go a miss & hey who doesn't like looking at clothes & thinking about ways in which you'd style them & make them work for your lifestyle?!

I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised by the offerings on the site I mean seriously would you have thought this was from Bonprix?!!!

I just love the crossover zip detailing perfect for teaming with a pair of skaters & either a denim jacket or biker jacket, or teaming with heels & a statement clutch on a night out.

Then I saw this stunning boucle frock coat & it was love at first sight!  Perfect for teaming with a simple shift dress for a special occasion or dressing down with jeans & a simple cami/t-shirt.  Plus it's available in cream or black too, I mean seriously how useful would the black one be?!

Then there's this lovely kaftan top, which has now been reduced to just £17.99 & also comes in black, jade or taupe.  Personally I'd style this with the tassel ties undone & team with a simple pair of jeans & trainers/sandals or if I wanted to dress it up a bit a pair of white trousers.  Perfect for summer evening or even with a pair of denim shorts & a panama for holiday chic.

Needless to say after spotting such beauties I thought it worth investigating further as certainly from the website Bonprix had some great offerings all at an great prices & if I'm honest I was keen to see if the quality was as good as the pictures looked.

So back to the challenge - to style a wedding guest outfit for £50.  At first I panicked thinking there was no way I could style a whole outfit for £50 but luckily I was allowed to use accessories already in my wardrobe along with anything I picked from Bonprix's wedding shop.

And what did I pick?  Well I went for this lovely dipped hem dress, which as soon as I spotted it I instantly loved but of course we all know loving something from a picture & loving it in the flesh can be a whole different ball game.

The dress is available in two different colorways - black as shown below or red, which after a lot of thought was the colour I decided to go for.

So first up here's a picture of the dress from their website.

And here's the dress on me.

Bon Prix Dipped Hem Dress By Rainbow My Midlife Fashion Wedding Outfit Zara Blazer Tuxedo Jacket Fascinator accessorize

Dress - Bonprix
Fascinator - Accessorize
Tuxedo Jacket - Zara
Bracelet - J Crew
Clutch - Zara
Sandals - Zara

As you can see I've kept the accessorises pretty simply & gone with all black so the dress can do all the talking.  A simple clutch, statement black heels that are shown off perfectly due to the beautiful raised hem, my Accessorize fascinator, a tuxedo jacket for warmth (as British summers being what they are you generally always need something for when it goes chilly!) & for jewellery I've just added by J Crew link bracelet.

Dress - Bonprix £44.99
Sandals - Zara Now £19.99
Bracelet - J Crew £125

So what do I think of the dress?  Well I absolutely love it - the fit is perfect, the quality amazing - it really is incredibly well made & I have to say looks far more expensive than it actually is.  Plus the fabric is incredibly thick so there's no need to think about having to add an underskirt or worry about the sun shining too brightly & becoming see through.  It's made from 70% viscose, 25% polyester & 5% elastane so fits to the body beautifully & the panelling & cut is incredibly flattering.

Plus of course, whilst it makes the most stunning outfit for a wedding or special occasion I think it would be perfect for teaming with some flat sandals & dressing down for a daytime or holiday look too so it's not something that's going to stay hanging in your wardrobe & only come out to play for a special occasion......although if anyone I know could now decide to get married so I could wear the outfit to a wedding I'd be most grateful!!

Now as I mentioned earlier the styling of a wedding outfit is part of a style challenge set by Bonprix & over the course of the next few days they're going to be asking you to vote on their Facebook page for the outfit you like the most so if you like how I've styled my outfit I'd love for you to keep an eye out & perhaps give me a like here.

So what do you think have you taken a look or bought anything from Bonprix recently or like me had you written it off?  All I can say is you should seriously take a look as they really do have some great picks.

See you tomorrow & before I leave you a quick heads up that the Boden up to 50% sale starts this morning click here to grab yourself a bargain!

Have a fab Sunday.

  4. OMG! Jane! You've done it again. One word - stunning! I have to admit that looking at the catalogue picture didn't really impress me then I scrolled down and WOW! The unusual hem and shape of the dress make it look far more expensive than it is. With your height and gorgeous figure you look very stylish. Brilliant styling xxxxxx
