September's Must Have & WIWT

For this month's wardrobe 'must have' it has to be the wrap.  Something that started gathering momentum last year but is now everywhere you look this season.  If you're someone like me that feels the cold (especially when in the cinema!) then these beauties are for you.  Perfect for snuggling down under & keeping out the cold plus last year I teamed mine with my biker jacket as an alternative to a big heavy winter coat & it kept me really warm.

Now I don't know about you but I'm not a huge fan of the poncho, I don't know why but I just feel like I need a stick on moustache & sombrero hat but this season's wrap just feels less like playing dress up & it's pretty versatile too.  Team over a denim or biker jacket, wear loosely over your shoulders, wrap one or both sides around your shoulders (like the first picture below) or even team with a belt, it's really versatile & it's also perfect for travelling all year round on a plane for taking the edge off the over fierce air conditioning.

So let's get cracking on what's on the high street.  As I've already mentioned they're literally everywhere & you're bound to find one (if not several) to your taste.  As the choice is so huge I thought I'd feature my top 10 in today's post & first up is this stunner from Hush.  I just love the simplicity of this one not to mention the deep purple teamed with the grey, a great versatile additional to any wardrobe as it's just perfect for teaming with black, greys, blues, winter whites.....I could go on!

Hush Blanket Shawl

Increasing the stripes on this next one.  Now I don't know about you but I have a huge weakness for this shade of grey, I'm instantly drawn to it as I find it a great neutral & if you're looking for something that's not quite as colourful as the Hush one above, this one from La Redoute might be just what you're looking for.

La Redoute Striped Poncho With Fringes

Of course you can't beat the classic checked wrap & this is a real stunner from Boden & available in three colour ways.  I'm not sure I could call it in terms of preference of colours but I'm thinking the darker grey version may just have the edge?!

Or if blues are more your thing then this one from Esprit is stunning.  Team with jeans & a classic white shirt & you'd be sure to make a stylish impression.

Esprit Colour Block Check Cape

Love the idea of this next one from ASOS.  If the thought of having something without arms puts you off trying a wrap then this striped number could be just the answer as the arm holes will mean no worries about it slipping off & I'm just loving the colours & bold stripes.

ASOS Bold Stripe Woven Cape

For a more monochrome look this one from French Connection is stunning & a real classic investment.

French Connection Striped Blanket Cape

As is this next one from Marks & Spencers, love the plum colour teamed with camel.

Marks and Spencer Striped Tassel Trim Wrap

Or for something a little bit more patterned & 'Bet'-tastic what about this Marks animal print one?!  Naturally I just love it - a simple black polo neck, skinny jeans & trilby & this would look a-mazing!

Marks and Spencer Animal Print Wrap

And finally I've featured this wrap previously on the blog but if you're after a plain number then you won't do better than this, plus it also comes in black & camel too.

So what do you think?  Are you venturing down the wrap path this Autumn?  I've got a black & grey Zara number from last year & a grey one that I got late summer in Marks which has completely disappeared off their website (justification if ever there was any for purchasing whilst wearing sandals & the hubby questioning my motives ;-) ) & am certainly planning on getting lots of wear out of both.

I'd love to hear if you've got a personal favourite not to mention a tip on how to style yours.

Happy 'hump' day & see you in the morning.

  1. Ooh, can't believe you've got your legs out today Jane, it's freezing in Hertfordshire! I've got jeans, trainers, a long sleeved t-shirt, cardi and scarf on and I'm still not really warm enough. I could do with one of those wraps right now! I think I'd go for the Esprit one, love the colours.

    1. I've got skin coloured tights on Sam, I wasn't that brave today lol!
The wraps are just perfect for adding another layer aren't they & can easily double up as an oversized scarf too. The Esprit one is a stunner isn't it.

  2. I have had my eye on the camel and plum Autograph one, going instore tomorrow so hope they have it there, there's 20% off from tomorrow there too! I do love the look of that French Connection one too, it wouldn't hurt to have two new wraps this Autumn would it?!!

    1. Ooh fingers crossed you manage to get it with the 20% off Carmel.
As for two wraps this Autumn I'm totally with you on the reasoning, after all a few colours bring more versatility yes?! ;-)

  3. Sorry, this is one fashion trend that I'll leave, thanks. Too much of the 'extra in a Clint Eastwood Western' for me. And I also feel that they are not comfy or warm, all that fabric, but big gaps for the wind to get through. I'm sure you will all look great, though.

I have bought a J Crew khaki field jacket for now, then it will be the puffa dragged from the back of the wardrobe while I ponder my next warm purchase.

    1. Lol I've now got visions of Clint Eastwood. I know what you're saying but when layered over another jacket/coat they're brilliant just think super sized blanket scarf!
Loving the sound of your J Crew field jacket.

  4. I must admit the wraps and ponchos a bit of a faff...I find myself constantly pulling them into position which is a shame as I love them on everyone else so I can't see myself with one of these either Jane! Fab Autumnal outfit of the day.....now this is a look I can do, I shall be stealing your style again! xx

    1. I think the thicker & heavier wraps are better for staying put Michelle. For me I just love the thought of being able to wrap myself up in one & they mean I can get more use out of my shorter jackets like my biker come the colder weather.

  5. I love ponchos & wraps & have worn them for years - even when they were considered naff!! I've seen a grey leopard print in Next that I really want to wear with all black & a splash of berry or red! X

  6. I also find them a bit of a faff, constantly readjusting. I have a poncho which I never wear as it's just too big on me and when I've got it one, it needs to stay on because it's not the easiest thing to take on and off when out and about and it'd ruin my hair!!! Maybe a wrap might suit me better, but I'm not convinced yet... Lynne xx

    1. I'm not a poncho fan Lynne but the wrap is a whole different ball game, you should definitely give one a go, I think it would look lovely on you.
