What I Was Up To In January & WIWT - Checks, Ruffles & All Blue

Morning ladies you may recall that back during the first half of January I had a day off work & headed to London for an exciting project.  Which for those of you who follow me on Instagram (here) I had hoped to share a few pictures with but in the end was sworn to secrecy & you just got images of my snacks for the day - Minstrals then the most gorgeous mega chocolate brownie ever!

Fast forward a few weeks & I can now tell you that I went to London to take part in a photo shoot for Woman Magazine!  To even be typing those words is totally surreal let alone to say them out loud.  Even though I have been writing my blog for just short of 3 years I'm still totally amazed that it has grown & developed into what it is.  As I could never in my wildest dreams have imagined or hoped for what it has become & that is only down to each & every one of you who reads, follows, comments & supports me so THANK YOU!

The feature in which I took part has now been published in this week's magazine - hence I'm allowed to share it with you & features myself with two other lovely ladies who have each taken a milestone birthday - 30th, 40th & 50th to push ourselves outside of our comfort zones.

As most of you will know mine was to push myself into putting myself out there by writing my blog. To say it was totally outside of my comfort zone is something of a HUGE understatement as I'm naturally a very shy person who before my blog didn't put herself 'out there' or wish to draw attention to myself.  I'm certainly not one of these 'hey look at me' people.  I just have & always will love clothes & creating new looks & after a couple of years of saying to hubby that I would love to have a blog, with his & our son's encouragement I finally took the plunge.

I know I say this a lot but I seriously didn't expect the blog to take me to where it has or give me the opportunities that have presented themselves, let alone work with some amazing brands.  But more importantly it has given me the confidence boost to be me & happy in my own skin.  I actually started My Midlife Fashion with only my hubby & son knowing & only after several months did I pluck up the courage to tell my Mum & Sister - in fact there are still a lot of family & friends that don't know anything about it.  I think most of the time I forget that people all over the world read & look at my posts - which is something I don't think I'll ever get my head around.

You can read the full feature in this week's issue of Woman Magazine (see here) but in the meantime I thought you might like to seem some pictures taken from behind the scenes on the day of the shoot - a real knees wobbling in a nervous way kind of day but a lot of fun & everyone from Woman Magazine was just lovely.  Just don't get me started on my hair & make up - how lovely would that be on a daily basis?!!

  2. Well done Jane! So very pleased for you. You have definitely inspired me; 1) to re-find my love of clothes, 2) to keep going at the gym to get into my smaller clothes!!!!! And hopefully with the help of my daughter to learn a bit more tech and upload a photo - watch this space! Loving my latest 'Bet' boots from Zara - £19.99 in the sale (from £69.99)... And you were right, the M&S navy pleather skirt went back - the weirdest shaped pencil skirt - couldn't walk in it! Enjoy your day and congratulations!

    1. Jane if I can do it you can. I'm still amazed anyone ever found me but it's lovely to 'meet' other lovely ladies like yourself.
The Zara boots sound like a real steal & I bet you wonder how you ever managed without them. I'd been thinking about that M&S skirt - such a shame it didn't work but that means there's even more fun to be had continuing with the search ;-)
Thank you for such a lovely comment & your support.

  5. Congratulations Jane X
I stumbled across you (Nov 2015) on Instagram looking for inspiration as I turned 40 and felt I really want to be a bit more stylish, comfortable and keeping it simple, which you really tick all those boxes. So a big thank you from me Triona living in Ireland. Wouldn't it be interesting to know where your followers are from?? Why not do a post on Instagram asking everyone to state where they are from?

  9. How fabulous for you and very well deserved. After having two children and stuck in a job I hated I lost my confidence to style my clothes and didn't feel worthy of being fashionable but after stumbling across your blog it's given me such as boost. I fell in love with clothes again and got my mojo back. I even had a career change and have joined a gym. I know it sounds a bit heavy but after discovering your blog it's inspired me so you deserve a day of pampering. Well done you

  11. Congratulations Jane, you deserve it, I love your down to earth, no nonsense blog, and I've bought a few of the items you wear, you are a great inspiration. I am quite a bit older than you, more old age fashion, than mid life, but I still love clothes and make up and try to keep up to date without looking "mutton'. Keep up the good work. Georgina x

    1. Thank you Georgina, what a lovely comment! I think alot of the clothes I love are perfect for styling for various age groups with just a little twist where appropriate. Like you say just because we hit a certain age doesn't mean we have to stop loving clothes & fashion. Most trends with a few exceptions can be tweeked to suit all age groups.
