Hair Care + WIW - All Grey

my midlife fashion, pureology strength cure superfood treatment, pureology hydrate superfood mask

Morning ladies I thought we'd talk hair care today as I get a lot of emails/messages asking me about the products I use & whilst I've listed everything in full here, I thought I'd share my favourite picks in more details today as there's been a few changes.

As I've already mentioned you can see the full list of products I use here, including the shampoo & conditioner I've been using for years & swear by.

Now I've recently been thinking I should perhaps start incorporating a weekly hair treatment into my routine as I've not used one for years, in fact probably not since I had blonde highlighted hair so when I recently received a couple of masks through the post I was intrigued to see if I'd notice a difference.  Now I've been trialling the products for a few weeks & am so impressed I'm planning on continuing using them & incorporating them into my weekly routine.  Produced by Pureology these masks are designed to be used once a week, so I alternate between the two.  The Hydrate Superfood Treatment is designed to treat tried & dull hair, whilst helping preserve the vibrancy of coloured hair & the Strength Cure Superfood Treatment helps to target breakage & split ends so between the two it ensures my hair is being well cared for.  What I love about both these products is that I saw a difference in the feel of my hair immediately after the first application plus it couldn't be easier, just apply once you've washed your hair & leave on for 2-5 minutes before washing off.  Giving you just enjoy time to treat your body to a bit of a weekly exfoliation!

The next update I've made is investing in a different hairspray, which I've probably been using for about 4 months now.  I'm not sure what made me change brands but I think I wasn't overly keen on the fragrance & thought I'd give something else a go.  I'm really impressed with this one as it's a much finer mist, smells gorgeous & brushes out really well.  In fact not only do I use it on my roots for a bit of lift, I'll also spray it onto my fingers to run through my hair to give a bit of texture instead of using wax & I swear it stops my hair from going fuzzy & frizzy in the damp, well that & Uniq One, which is something I've probably been using for about 3 years now & is the only other product I use in my hair.

Apart from incorporating the hair treatments & swapping brands on hairspray the other big change I've made is to the tools I use.  I was lucky enough to be contacted by LanaiBLO to see if I'd be interested in trialling their hairdryer & seeing as mine is now a few years old I was intrigued to see if I'd notice any difference.  Plus & if you're a girly girl like me, you'll love the fact that they'll personalise & add your name to your hairdryer - how cool is that :-)  which hopefully means hubby & son will get the message to keep their hands off it too ;-)

Designed to be both powerful & lightweight the hairdryer is not only the lightest 2400 watt hairdryer on the market it's also been designed to give a salon standard finish, meaning quicker drying time, which if like me you have a lot of fine hair is a massive plus as I get bored trying to dry my hair.  Plus it has 6 speed/heat settings as well as a cold shot feature & Ionic technology to help tame frizz & smooth the cuticles of our hair to give a smooth & shiny finish.  What's not to love?!  Again I've been using the hairdryer for a few weeks & love it.  It's certainly a lot more powerful than my previous one, which reduces the time I spend drying my hair & whilst I still can't be parted from my hair straighteners it also makes my hair a lot smoother with more body.  So definitely another recommendation from me & of course due to the fact it can be personalised with your name on it, it really would make the perfect Christmas present!

My Midlife Fashion, instyler max

The other update I've made is to vary the type of straighteners I use.  Now I've never tried GHD's but I have used normal Babyliss ones & also some vibrating plate straighteners so when I received the InStyler MAX I was intrigued but didn't hold out much hope as firstly my hair is quite short (especially at the back) & secondly couldn't see how they were going to give me the straightening I wanted due to the barrel design.  My hair has a tendency to grow outwards & as I have so much of it I don't like hot brushes as they give me too much body & I thought that this would also be the case with the InStyler Max, especially on the ends of my hair but I have to say I've been pleasantly surprised.

Designed as a 3-in-1 styling tool not only can it straighten & curl it can also create volume & shine.  As I've already mentioned I was a concerned that I wouldn't get the straightening I wanted to my hair & I was also worried about the 2 way rotating barrel as I had visions of my hair becoming entangled & damaged, but as you can see my hair is still in one piece so this is certainly not the case & I stopped worrying about this after the first time of use.  The only thing that took me a little time to work out was which way I needed to have the barrel rotating in regards to the direction of my hair but that was down to me having a bit of a d'uh moment!  So now if I want a little more body & less of a straight/flat look to my hair I'm using the Instyler Max for more texture & a little more volume at the roots.

Plus on top of straighening, for those of you who love curls & loose beachy waves you can also achieve this look with the InStyler Max - I've yet to try this, as whilst it's a look I love on others I'm not sure I'd be able to curl the back of hair due to length but having watched the video here, I must admit I'm tempted to give it a go as it looks so easy.

my midlife fashion, instyler glossie ceramic styling brush

The other styling tool I've recently tried is the above Instyler Glossie Ceramic Styling Brush, which is designed to deliver an instant straight & smooth style with shine & is perfect for adding bounce & volume.  Whilst this is designed to be a cross between a hot brush & flat iron I would recommend this more for anyone looking for a tool that's going to add volume or create natural flicks as opposed to straighten.  Plus probably with longer hair than my own as I found the Glossie styling brush to be easier to use on the longer lengths of my hair at the front as opposed to the back where it is a lot shorter.

  1. First belated happy birthday to you. Love today's jumper. I couldn't get the other stories jumper in red due to my size being sold out. Not to be deterred I found an oversized turtle neck in turquoise on the webite instead. Turquoise!
Hairstyler wise I found the babyliss rotating brush hair dryer and have never looked back. Get the right sized barrel and it dries styles and gives shine to my hair in one. It's my desert island gadget.

    1. Aww thanks so much for the birthday wishes Susan :-)
Loving the sound of the turquoise jumper - not a colour I wear that that much but it will look stunning against all the wardrobe neutrals of black, grey & navy & add a real wow factor against winter white. You'll have to let me know how you get on with it.
As for the Babyliss rotating brush hair dryer I have tried this in the past but after a couple of incidents of getting my hair really tangled gave up. I'm sure it's one of those things I should of perserved with but I was worried about ending up with my hair shorter on one side if it ever got over tangled lol ;-) But like you my mum swears by hers.

  2. Yes I confess I did have the tangles at first too. Practice makes perfect. Not now as clearly I love it and don't know how I'd live without it. Hubby is getting me the new device that gives soft curls for Xmas. I'll let you know how it goes.
