Outfit Inspiration For Spring + WIW

Looks 1, my midlife fashion, house of fraser jaeger rib funnel neck sweater, jigsaw hoxton chino, french sole henrietta ballerina pumps, sandwich belted stretch denim shirt dress, phase eight mimi straw shoppwer with tassels, office amalfi mid heel western boots, jigsaw cotton slub stripe slouchy tee, jaeger shank button chino, moda in pelle fianntas lace up trainers

Morning ladies, just a hint of bright blue skies sees my mind drifting to those glorious Spring days where everything including myself starts to come alive.  I think it's probably fair to say we're all done with Winter & totally ready for Spring.  I don't know about you but I just love those initial brighter nights when the Spring bulbs start flowering & that feeling of warmth on your skin from those first warm sunbeams.

With Spring at the forefront of my mind I've put together some Spring outfit inspiration care of House of Fraser for today's post.  From cropped wide legged chinos teamed with a cosy knit & ballet pumps to a denim dress teamed with tan accessories & a straw basket to the classic & breton combo there's lots of new temptations.

Looks 2, my midlife fashion, house of fraser, mela london trumpet sleeve open front jacket, tommy hilfiger iconic track loungewear sweat top, tommy hilfiger high rise skinny fit santana jeans, kurt geiger london leif shoes, hallhuber textured cardigan with ¾ sleeves, hallhuber flounce blouse, linea tami twill cigarette trousers, L K Bennett bia flats, l k bennett elouise coat, french connection eastside cotton bow sleeve shirt, jigsaw hampton supersoft jean, dune aeron flex pointed toe slip on shoes

One of my personal favourite combinations this time of year has to be a jacket & trouser combo - whether that be dressed down with jeans, a slogan sweat & trainers or a more smarter look of a boucle/knitted jacket paired with cigarette pants & ballet pumps.  Not to mention the classic & ever stylish trench styled with a splash of leopard print & a couple of wardrobe classics for an elegant laidback weekend look.  Just putting these outfits together & writing this post has got me counting down the days till the clocks change & mentally thinking about all the outfits I can't wait to wear.

The thought of ditching the thermals & layers & swapping for a cosy longline cardi, or a simple knit, let alone being able to go out in just a shirt or t-shirt currently sounds bliss doesn't it.  But that doesn't mean I'll be ditching my ankle boots anytime soon, as personally I find them useful all year round, especially during those April showers!

I don't often wear double denim but when I do I'll generally combine two colours & being a lover of anything with a bit of frill/ruffle detailing the above denim shirt has my name all over it.  As does the sparkly rainbow clutch, the perfect going out outfit maker.

Looks 4, my midlife fashion, house of fraser jigsaw washed biker jacket, frock and frill long sleeve mesh fit and flare dress, office atlantic back tab panel boots, jigsaw nappa leather biker jacket, marella girotta stripe pleated maxi dress, moda in pelle latinna mid heel ankle boot, jaeger leather biker jacket, biba printed romantic ruffle dress, office amalfi mid heel western boots

Then of course there's the biker jacket/dress combo that makes the perfect transitional look & is a fab alternative if, like me you tend to mainly live in jeans.  Ideal for teaming with ankle boots whilst it's still cooler, swap for trainers if you're going to be on your feel all day, then come the warmer weather team with strappy flats.

Obviously it's impossible to even begin to share all the new into store delights House of Fraser have had in since my previous post.  I've just simply tried to feature my edited version but if you fancy enjoying some me time then why not check out the full selection here.

Back to today & unfortunately I'm not quite ready to ditch the thermals or layers.  Instead with two young puppies, one of which is now fully immunised & ready to start exploring & hopefully learning how to walk to heel, today's look is more of a casual one. Something that's going to prove my typical dog walking attire for all the outdoor activities I'll be doing in the coming weeks.

With this in mind this month I've chosen a timeless & stylish Barbour.  A jacket I've always had my eye on, but worried that it might feel too heavy/bulky have never got round to 'clicking the button' on.  After looking at all the different styles stocked (see here) & initially thinking I wanted a quilted jacket I decided that in terms of versatility I'd rather have something that is fully waterproof so decided on the Beadnell Wax Jacket

Never having owned a Barbour I was unsure on sizing but decided to order my normal size & I have to say I'm really pleased with the fit.  I had expected quite a bulky/boxy fit but the jacket feels slightly tailored & is definitely true to size.  Plus it's not to big to wear just a single layer top under nor to tight to layer up in thermals & a knit.  In addition you can also buy a detachable hood  & zip in lining for added warmth, which I'm planning on investing in, as I think this jacket is going to become my go to & soon replace my parka as it feels that little bit more grown up & tailored, which I love!  In fact I love it that much I'd happily wear it out for other occasions not just walking, which for me says a lot!

So in keeping with puppy training & walking I've styled my Barbour quite casually with my walking boots & a simple denim & cashmere combo that I've smartened up with the addition of my felt fedora.

Needless to say as soon as the boys saw my walking boots they wanted in on the photos & the exploring of the outside door step.  Although trying to get a photo where the 3 of us were looking at the camera proved more difficult than imagined & the sunshine was making Chester in particular very sleepy.

So ladies have I featured anything that takes your fancy?  Also who's longing for Spring & started planning their SS18 outfits?  Perhaps you identified some holes in your wardrobe that you're looking to fill or maybe considering a new trend or even wanting to inject some more colour, if so any in particular?

As always I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Enjoy your day & as always I'll be back in the morning.

  1. I, for one am longing for spring. Unfortunately, we are still knee deep into winter. I think today it is supposed to get up to a balmy -13! My winter dog-walking wardrobe consists of a thick, heavy North Face Coat, winter boots, my battery operated warming gloves, hat and scarf. It isn't pleasant. I took my daughter shopping yesterday and the stores are starting to stock up for spring. Every year, I vow to wear what I have and not indulge in too much, but there is a lot out there that is tempting!

    1. Oh my goodness Brenda now that is cold! I'm not surprised you need a thick & heavy coat. Yes there's definitely a feel of Spring in the shops now & it's not long till the clocks change over here so roll on those lighter nights :-)

  2. it was half a degree here. In NI when I was going to work this morning and if we are lucky we get out of our winter clothes for about 2 weeks in May and then it's back to winter clothes again. I personally wear thermals 50 weeks of the year. Not sure where Jane lives, but our weather is not remotely similar to Jane's description.
