"Timeless everyday style"

Midlife Loves

How Did That Get There?!!!!

Okay so my halo may have slipped, if not crashed to the floor since my last post :S I suppose I should have known it was too good to be true but with such good buys around at the moment, what's a girl to do?!!!

Of course it serves me right for thinking I had done with sales shopping (obviously nothing to do with being totally weak minded!) & I REALLY wasn't going to look but then I was lead astray by two wonderful ladies on Twitter (click to follow me) telling me about the fabulous GAP sale, so of course I just had to take a peak!

Now as soon as I decided to take a peak you didn't need a crystal ball to know it was going to prove fatal & there are currently lots of fab buys on the GAP site.  But seeing as I was TRYING to be good, I managed to limit myself to a couple of items.

So starting with this amazingly cheap as chips dress, currently available for £11.99 (reduced from £29.95).  Now I know it's not exactly sticking to my rule of buying things that can be worn all year round (although of course you could layer thermals underneath) but it's just such a classic maxi dress & would look great with a denim jacket on our colder (read majority of summer) days, add some fab accessories and sandals & you're good to go.  And quite frankly for this price it would have been rude not to investigate further!

If grey's not your thing then how about it in hot coral?

Now of course I had to order a few other bits & pieces to qualify for the free shipping, some of which was running gear, which I won't bore you with but another little beauty that made it's way into my basket was this striped jumper.  Now In my mind you can't beat the classic combo of navy and cream stripes and what I really like about this jumper is that it's just made that little bit more interesting with the different stripes on the sleeves so it immediately makes an everyday top that little bit different.  Of course being reduced from £29.95 also made it interesting too ;)

For those who want something a little bit different, it's also available in cream & grey.

Now confession time, the next item to have caught my eye this week isn't actually in the sale but when I saw the price & reviews they had got online I simply had to give them a go.  Now it's not as if I didn't have enough shoes, but I DON'T have any faux snakeskin court shoes & what I love about these shoes from good old M&S is that they aren't too high in the heel department.  Which means I stand a chance of keeping my heel in & I should also be able to wear these when going solo as even I should be able to walk unassisted in these beauties & if I can't well I damn well need to learn!  Okay so they're not real leather but really for £15 they're worth a shot & judging from the reviews online they're apparently really comfy (well I am approaching forty don't you know) so they should prove a great daytime staple for teaming with some skinny jeans & of course they can be worn all year round!

Now I've only ordered the snakeskin but I did happen to notice they do several other designs in this range too, some of which I thought it simply rude not to share & whilst they look a bit sensible in the pictures online I'm hoping they'll be great classics in the flesh!

Starting with a bit of Bet & these leopard print court shoes.  Now personally I prefer leopard print to be on pony skin but for those of you who I have failed in my attempts to convert to a bit of leopard love then these are a great way of adding a little bit to your wardrobe without breaking the bank.

If you fancy adding an injection of colour to your wardrobe how about these red court shoes.  Again a great way of adding colour & I don't know about you but I always feel a bit 'special' when I wear a brighter pair of shoes.

I also absolutely LOVE these navy snakeskin court shoes but I am TRYING to be sensible so I'm resisting.....for now!

Now moving swiftly on to what I've been wearing the last few days.

Steal Her Style - Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

So how's the summer sale shopping going?  I have to admit I'm being REALLY good (*she says as hubby takes her temperature*)!

I can now report back, having taken delivery of said Massimo Dutti & Zara orders that a large proportion of ordered goodies have been returned (*quick polish of the halo*)!  There are of course a few things which have found there way into my wardrobe but SERIOUSLY the damage could have been a lot worse.  Of course the gold ballet pumps and leather cuff from Massimo Dutti (click here to see) were definite keepers & from the Zara haul I've kept the quilted jacket, basic cowboy boots, gold sneakers, faux leather combination skirt  & the biker jacker (click here).

Gosh listing it all here it sounds a lot but seriously I promise you I've been good.  Of course it doesn't count the Mango jacket & cardigans that may be winging their way to me as we speak but I have stuck to ordering things that can be worn all year round I promise.  And to quote a delivery guy who collected some returns this morning "gosh it's all going back".  I kid you not, this was his response when presented with three boxes for return, so even he was surprised (or perhaps that should read amazed :) ).

Although I think I may have worried my son with the purchase of the gold sneakers (I'm sensing a new theme/addiction with the gold ballet pumps as well!) but hey this approaching forty lark is pretty liberating.  Plus they are soooo pretty & seeing as I don't have a little girl to dress up & my son is DEFINITELY not playing ball what's a girl to do ;)

Now before I get distracted by another sale email pinging it's way into my inbox & my halo crashes to the floor I wanted to share this stunning outfit worn by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

I totally love this outfit, stylish & elegant as well as being understated & accessorised with some great pieces.  Plus I absolutely LOVE these two colours, which will also go with a whole heap of other colours in your wardrobe - navy, cream, white, black to name just a few.

So on that basis I've decided to steal Rosie's style (unfortunately not her lips - how I wish mine were half that plump!) & here's my pick from the high street of items similar to Rosie's to create the same outfit.

Starting with the panama hat.  Now if you're off on holiday in the coming weeks this is a great addition to take with you.  I brought one a few years ago in Majorca & I have to say it's my fail safe for when the camera is out.  If I'm quick enough to throw it on before the picture is taken not only does it hide the glorious humidity inspired hairstyle but if angled correctly some of the lines too!  Plus &  more importantly of course it's a stylish look for wearing when keeping the sun off your face!!!  I have to admit I was slightly anxious at paying a decent price for such a hat, as the thought of attempting to get it home in one piece without being crushed or permanently re-shaped filled me with dread.  I know of course you can always wear it but unless you want to sit with it on your head for the entire journey there's always the hassle of trying not to squash it when placed in the overhead luggage compartment & someone is trying to squeeze their duty free purchases in!  However, the problem has been solved by the shop assistant who gave me the tip of packing it in middle of the suitcase upside down & filled with clothing such as socks, t-shirts etc & then packing clothes around the outsides.  And I have to admit three years on not only is it still going strong it's also in it's original shape :)

This panama from M&S caught my eye as I love the wide brim, although I do think it would look a lot more stylish if the brim was angled further down when worn.  Also as an idea, if you fancy a change to the normal black band you could always replace it with a different coloured ribbon to add a softer note.

Moving onto the sunnies, Rosie appears to have teamed hers with some aviator styled ones.  Of course any style will go but if you fancy getting some aviators that don't break the bank, I really like these ones from Next & with the snake effect along the sides it just adds that extra dimension.

Turning to the jumper I LOVE this one from ASOS.  Not only is it a great colour but it has sparkle too (see I told you the gold theme was going to start being a new obsession!) & it would look really pretty & warming against the skin.  And as a Brucie bonus it's currently reduced & available in most sizes :)

Moving onto the jeans, how about these ones from GAP?  I really like the look of these & love the length.  And the zipped pockets & sides just make them that little bit different to a plain pair of skinnies, which when you're wearing an outfit like this which is pretty plain in terms of no pattern, fuss or jewellery any bit of detailing will really add to the outfit.  Not to encourage you or anything but they're also available in a gorgeous beige/camel colour too!

For the bag, I really love this one from Gemini.  Not only is it a gorgeous classic shape that's not going to date, it's the most divine shade of tan & is also big enough to fit everything that we ladies seem to carry around with us.  I also love the gold chain detailing on the strap, which again will add to the overall look of an outfit.

Finishing with the shoes & this great pair from Next.  Again a great classic shape & colour with a slight platform base to help elongate our legs.  I really think these would be a great addition to any wardrobe & once purchased would probably be one of those pairs of shoes you wondered how you had managed without as they really would go with most things.

And moving on from the ever stylish & youthful Rosie to what I've been wearing since my last post.

As always I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Hope the rest of the week is a good one x

It Had To Be Done - Two Of My Favourite Loves!

So come on admit it, whose already hit the Zara sale?!!!

Well it will come of no surprise to hear that I have & no contrary to popular belief, I didn't stay up till just turned midnight on Thursday night - no god-dam-it I feel alseep WAY before then :(  But seeing as I was awake at 5:20am the following morning mind buzzing & awaiting the sound of the alarm I did find myself checking it out & with only a 25 minute slot before having to get up not too much damage was done (she says while crossing her fingers!!!).

Now you (& hubby) will be pleased to know that I haven't brought everything I'm about to mention in this post but let's face it any Zara addict worth their weight in gold HAD to check out their sale.  And what better way than to list the key pieces that I feel are both timeless and classic additions for any wardrobe.  Not to mention could be worn for autumn/winter, so on my logic that makes it ESSENTIAL purchases, I mean next season's wardrobe while discounted - just think of the money we're saving!!!

As I've mentioned in the past with Zara if you snooze you loose & a couple of the items that did 'magically' find their way into my shopping basket have already disappeared from their website.  So fingers crossed the items I'm about to mention stay a round a little longer.  Yes I know some of the items haven't yet been heavily discounted but if it's a classic piece of clothing that you'd thought about treating yourself to for next season anyway - every little bit helps & of course it's not to say it's not going to reduced further but the big question is will it still be available in your size?!!

So starting with their jackets, which you will know I'm VERY partial too (understatement of the century) & first up is this classic double breasted navy blazer.  A great classic buy & addition to any wardrobe, which would look fab worn with white trousers/jeans for summer & blue jeans and a white shirt for the autumn.  Plus having been reduced £20 from £79.99 thats £20 you've saved to go towards something else :)

Next is this stunning black leather biker jacket, which has somehow found it's way into my shopping basket.  Now I really fancy a leather biker jacket for winter and having been reduced from £169 to £119 it was a no brainer for me so fingers crossed I like it when it arrives!

Next up I absolutely love this off white blazer with contrasting lapels, which would look stunning worn with some wax effect skinnies & killer heels for a night out.  If I hadn't already got two cream jackets in my wardrobe I would be snapping it up.  It's currently reduced from £79.99 to £59.99 but if it comes down some more in price I may just have to give it a try too!

Another jacket that has found it's way into my basket is this little beauty.  Now I've seen lots of bloggers & gorgeous women wearing it & have to admit I thought I'd missed the boat as it had disappeared from their website & in-store.  Which meant I've been kicking myself as it goes with a whole heap of colours & would look fab for the autumn/winter.  But once again my Shopping Fairy was smiling down on me as it's currently available in sizes small & medium & is another £10 saved.  So if like me you've  been after said jacket act quickly :)

Moving away from the jackets quickly before I add any more to my order, I love these loose fitting white jeans, which okay are more of a spring/summer look & would look fab teamed with a great breton top or slouncy jumper.  They're currently available for £22.99 having been reduced from £29.99.

Or how about these grey boyfriend jeans?  I've recently brought these before they hit the sales (outfit three)  for £39.99 :( but I love the distressing & slightly looser fit & they're not MC Hammer in the bum area so all in all a great cropped pair that are in the most gorgeous shade of grey.

Moving onto skirts how about this faux leather combination skirt reduced from £29.99?  This may also have found itself winging it's way to me.  I'm hoping this will look great teamed with biker boots and thick tights in the winter so one of those all year round skirts that are just 'useful' to have in your wardrobe & the faux leather around the hem line just adds that little bit more style & detail.

Then looking at coats I simply LOVE this animal printed three quarter length coat, which would look stunning worn with all black in the winter.  A real statement coat which has been reduced from £89.99.

For a real classic, last a lifetime staple how about this double breasted rain coat.  Which considering the wonderful wet weather we seem to be getting all year round would certainly be useful.  After all you might as well look stylish & wet as opposed to just wet!!! And having been reduced from £69.99 I think this is a great buy.

Moving onto shoes you won't be surprised to see that these leopard print kitten heels have made it onto my list!  Obviously I have a whole heap of leopard print shoes in my wardrobe so I have managed to restrain myself but if I didn't already have the red ones in my wardrobe they would have definitely have slipped in.  Currently reduced by £10 but a real staple & being kitten heel not to hard to walk in either!!!

Moving onto boots, I'm also loving these flat cowboy boots, which have been reduced buy £10 & will just be sooo useful come the autumn.

Or if you prefer more of a heel to your boots how about these basic cowboy ones, which have been reduced from £59.99 & come in this gorgeous shade of tan not to mention block heel, which again should make them easy to walk in.

Or if a wedged trainer is more your thing, what about these snake print ones which have been reduced from £59.99?  Now I've yet to give the wedge trainer a try so have sneaked these beauties into my order to see what I think as I reckon having been been reduced to under the £50 mark that they might just be worth a go & again great colours for the autumn/winter.

And how I managed to resist these little beauties I don't know, currently reduced from £69.99.  As I'm typing I'm suffering from a very twitchy finger hovering on the 'buy me' button, but resist I will!!

I'm also loving these gold sneakers, reduced from £59.99 & think it may be a toss up between these & the snakeprint ones when they arrive.

Finally finishing with bags, I love this classic tan bucket bag.  Reduced from £79.99 & in a gorgeous shade of tan.  A real staple for any wardrobe.

Now moving away from my love of Zara & onto my love of fake tan.  I was recently lucky enough to have been sent this new one hour fake tan to try by Cocoa Brown & I have to admit I'm really impressed :)  The tan comes in a very easy to apply mousse, which has a slight colour to it so you can see where you're applying it so helping to reduce streaks.  On application it absorbed like a dream really quickly into my skin so not a lot of rubbing & blending was required, which is always a bonus in my book & on a plus side as far as hubby was concerned didn't have the normal 'fake tan' smell.

As it mentions in the name it takes an hour to take but it can be left on for anything between 1-3 hours  for a deeper tan.  Having not tried it before I decided to opt on the side of caution & remove after an hour & a half.  I was going to just go for it but hubby pleaded with me to be 'sensible' for fear of ending up looking like an umpa lumpa as even after showering the tan deepens further.

And the result was a real sunkissed even looking tan - perfecto :)  Now I admit I have managed to get a little bit of natural tan from the rare sightings of sun we've seen over recent weeks so if I was using in the winter I'm sure the Cocoa Brown tan would probably be enough left on for the time I did but seeing as I have a little bit of colour next time I'm going to leave it on for the full three hours to get a slightly deeper tan in the safe knowledge that I won't end up looking like an extra from Charlie & the Chocolate Factory!!!

Now I did take before, during & after pictures of my arm to show you the results but unfortunately the pictures haven't turned out great so you will just have to believe me when I say it really has given my skin a lovely sunkissed look.  Outfit two below was taken the morning after the night before so you can hopefully get an idea from that.

So there you have it, my edit of the best things available in the Zara sale & the heads up on a great new brand of tan, seriously what more could a girl want, apart from winning the lottery of course!!!

So have I tempted you to hit the 'buy me' button?  Or perhaps I've missed something that you've had your eye on.  As always I'd love to hear about your bargains & also know if I'm the only one that uses the logic of counting up what I've saved & thinking it means it can go towards another sneaking purchase ;)

Have a great weekend & happy sales shopping :) x

Start of the Summer Sale Frenzy!

Well it's that time of year again when your inbox will start being inundated with notifications of the 'summer' (said very loosely of course) sales.  And for any shopaholic worth their title it takes a strong willed lover of clothes to resist clicking on the link (that rules me out then lol!) & seeing what's gone into the sale.  I don't know if it's just me or perhaps I'm not the only one, but I seem to play Russian roulette with said sales thinking as I'm in the process of hitting the button that I'll just take a look & thinking I won't be tempted into hitting the 'buy me' button unless that certain item that I've been wanting to buy all season but thought too expensive is now in the sale & available in my size?!!  I mean seriously who am I trying to kid?!!

This year I am determined (legal disclaimer - I may or may not be crossing my fingers at this point!) not to buy something unless it's a- an item that is a classic key piece which will enhance my wardrobe & b- is something that I can wear all year round because let's face it with the weather we seem to be having it's pointless investing in too many sleeveless thin chiffon numbers if you're not going to be able to layer up or wear a thermal or two underneath as they're just going to end up sitting prettily in your wardrobe gathering dust & taunting you.

Of course this in not making any allowances for the 'had to buy' items that are either items I've been lusting over or simply so heavily reduced it would have been rude not to.  However I promise (said rather loosely) that I am starting out with the resolve that I am not buying anything unless it fits the criteria mentioned above no matter how good a discount.  That being said it is the start of the sale season so we'll have to see how I fair at the end of it all!

One of my biggest gripes about sale time is the tat that some store bring in, which really isn't even genuine seasonal items reduced to sell at a supposed discount.  So it is with this in mind that I really try to invest in some classic pieces for my wardrobe, which I know will work with pieces I already own  & which I feel are going to last if not a lifetime then a good few years to come.

One of the brands I love hitting at sale time is Massimo Dutti.  As you will know from previous posts I am a real lover of this brand, who make well made classic pieces, which I can vouch last forever.  I got a couple of great little jackets in their January sale so there was much excitement (well I have said that I don't get out much) when I clicked on the link when their sale email pinged into my inbox recently.

Now I will state for the record that this will probably not be the only time that I'll peruse their sale as to strike bargain hunter gold (£150 jacket reduced to £30 like in January *she says glowing with pride!*) you really do need to keep on the look out for that absolute steal, which you'll only get once the sale has been on for a few weeks & prices have been discounted by 70% but in the meantime & to wet your appetite, here's a round up of the items that are winging their way to me as I type.  Of course there's always the chance that when I see them in the flesh they may not be what I had visualised (& hubby is certainly hoping this is the case) but I'm sure there'll be at least of a couple of these babies finding a new home in my wardrobe ;)

First up are these lovely gold ballet pumps.  Now my Shopping Fairy must have been looking after me as I'd only mentioned in my last blog how I'd love a pair & these look to be the perfect shade of gold. Not too bling-a-ling-ding but that soft gold tone that I think looks stunning when worn with a tan & is really flattering on the skin.  My tan ballet pumps are from Massimo Dutti & I'm really pleased with them so fingers crossed these should be a keeper & having been reduced from their original price of £54.95 a good saving too :)

Sticking with the shoe theme I may have also slipped a couple of other pairs into my basket - well I didn't want the ballet pumps to get lonely now did I!!!

So seeing as the leopard print theme is here to stay for Autumn/Winter & adding in my addiction to all things leopard print when I spied these slipper shoes in the sale (something I have half been tempted to try) I thought it was now or never and having been reduced from £79.95 what was a girl to do?!!!

Finally (well for the shoes at least!) this fawn pair of ankle boots.  Which ticked all my boxes as their colour (provided I liberally spray with some stain protector) will mean I can wear them for all seasons & due to their 'sensible' heel should mean even I could wear these when flying solo & without hubby's arm to keep me upright. Of course the sticking point may be the opening at the top & how these look with my many pairs of skinny jeans but having been reduced form £99.95 they have simply got to be tried.

Now I have resisted adding to my jacket collection - so far anyway (I'm holding out for another sale steal) & instead have been lured into clicking the button on this striped dress (originally £89.95).  This could be a real classic investment, I'm thinking it would look great teamed with a denim jacket for a casual look or a tailored navy or cream jacket for a more dressy look.  It could perhaps even be worn as a tunic over some capri trousers too so could be quite a 'useful' & many faceted addition to the wardrobe ;)

Now in my book you can never have enough breton tops & when I spied this one (originally £29.95) in a camel colour I simply had to give it a whirl.  Perfect for layering over a simple white t-shirt & thermal in the winter & for those of you that fancy a different play on the navy & white stripe it's also available in black & white.

And of course this navy & white one was never going to escape my basket having been reduced from it's original price of £22.95.  In fact seeing as it also comes in a camel & white stripe & a mint green & white stripe having ordered just the one colour I feel I've been quite restrained!

And seeing as I seem to be incorporating brighter colours into my wardrobe I also love the look of this t-shirt (originally £22.95) which would be great for brighten outfits & layering up during our colder months.

One item which happened to sneak in when I wasn't looking (that darn Shopping Fairy ;) ) is this navy chain leather cuff (also available in a light brown), which despite not being in the sale I simply had to try.

So there you have it my (first) pick of the Massimo Dutti sale (excluding hubby's pieces of course).

Moving onto another company that has some great & genuine sales is Gemini.  Now if you haven't heard of this store you simply have to check them out.  I was lucky enough to pop into their Stratford-Upon-Avon store at the weekend & meet the amazing team & I can officially confirm they have some of the most beautiful pieces.  And because they sell everything from shoes, bags, accessories to jewellery not to mention clothes a girl really could go wild in the aisles.  Now if you don't live anywhere near Stratford-upon-Avon fear not because their website is just as amazing.  Brands stocked in store & online include Inwear, Sandwich, Masai, Great Plains & French Connection to name but a few & they even have their own brand to tempt you further!  Their sale started yesterday so take my advice & head over quickly to grab yourself a bargain.  Oh & if you spend over £50 before the 22nd of June you can use the code 'SALEX10' & receive a further £10 discount - so pour yourself a glass of something chilled & bubbly & hit their website quickly before I cause further damage to the credit card :)

And just to tempt you further have a look at the gorgeous scarf from Gemini that I'm wearing in outfit one that I have fallen head over heels in love with.
