As I've said before I'm of the belief that even the most simplest and plainest of outfits can be transformed into an amazing look with the addition of a statement necklace but the same can also be said for some serious arm candy too.
Now by this I'm not meaning dripping in diamonds, although of course I wouldn't say no, after all I'm in agreement with Marilyn that diamonds are a girl's best friend but in this instance I am actually referring to a more affordable, less break the bank kind of look, of a mass of different coloured & styled chunky bracelets made from various metals, beads and leathers.
One of my reasons for the love of lots of bracelets worn altogether is I like the clatter bracelets make when knocking against each other which probably goes back to childhood memories of my grandma and her charm bracelet which I would literally spend hours looking at. And of course there's that great Bette Midler film Big Business where the character shakes her bracelets & hisses.
As someone who can tend on the side of OCD being comfortable not match items or having everything in a set order can really go against the grain (yes I do have my wardrobe neatly arranged in t-shirts, shirts, jumpers etc and colour coded - see I'm not joking about erring on the OCD side!) but if you (of course I mean I!) can just learn to go with it & wear a collection of your favourite bracelets I think it just adds that bit of 'rock chick, chicky rock' to your outfit. Especially if worn with something quite understated, I'm thinking white shirt, a soft blue pair of skinny jeans, ballet flats & of course some serious arm candy.
And no one rocks this look better than the amazing Elle Macpherson. Let's face it Elle has an amazing style fullstop and boy would I love her body, skin, hair, wardrobe.... But these are all unobtainable, unless I start by having a body transplant & considering I feel ill at the sight of a needle this simply isn't going to happen! I love the mass and varied bracelets she wears and how it just adds that bit of rockability to her outfits.
So I've played around on Polyvore & created this collection of arm candy that I would love to rock with.

As you may have noticed I wasn't kidding about the OCD thing as I've just spotted that I've chosen two bracelets in all three colours....oh well leopard & spots! But I love the gold mixed with the grey & red & these colours could be worn all year round & of course intermixed with other colours too. Hey I may even throw caution to the wind & add a navy bracelet to the mix (can you see how I love to live life on the edge lol!).
And here's a couple of pictures of my attempts at arm candy.

As always I'd love to get your feedback & to know if there's any bracelets you're currently rockin' or are on your wish list, so please let me know x
I LOVE bracelets and I'm much more comfortable in them than necklaces. I love mixing high and low end and I'm fortunate to have plenty of Tiffany bracelets courtesy of OH that I mix with some great beaded bracelets or leather bracelets. F21 have fabulous cheapo bracelets and I got a great studded bracelet from Primark when I was last home. You're looking amazing as ever! x
ReplyDeleteThanks Joanna. I think it's great how high end with high street can so easily be mixed together for this look. I've just ordered a couple of chunky leather effect ones from New Look x
DeleteI do arm candy rather than neck candy but unlike you I don't like things which clank which is why I make all my own bracelets so they fit me exactly. I used to wear more "clanky" things but I now wear the simplest leather bracelets and layer those up. Every now and then, I will put on a nice mish mash of bracelets but invariably I will have removed them all by the end of the night. I'm a dead loss.
ReplyDeleteOooh I've seen your bracelets and they're gorgeous plus totally unique. I've dabble in jewellery making, mainly with pearls & crystals but would love more time to experiment. I go through phases and generally seem to wear more bracelets in the summer months than in winter.
DeleteI'm the same, definitely arm candy. I love the little subtle ones - actually saw this great website with lots of simple designs - but when i added together my basket totalled around £500! not so simple;)
ReplyDeleteAlso, love your quilted jacket - I've got my eye on a gorgeous Limited Edition one from River Island at the moment..must not buy any more clothes!!
I love all the personalised individual ones you can get but like you say they soon add up. I need to win the lottery!!!
DeleteLove love love this look, a big favourite of mine. Right now I have a few Stella & Dot bracelets and my others are from Fossil. Love both those brands.
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog and enjoying very much. Hubby and I both turning 40 this year too : (
Trip to NYC booked sans children : )
Thanks Gillian for the lovely comments. Stella & Dot have some amazing jewellery which is just perfect for this kind of look.
DeleteWhat a fantastic way to celebrate both your 40ths. We went for our 10th wedding anniversary & absolutely loved it, just remember to take a spare suitcase for all your purchases! x
I would love that classic pave link bracelet from J crew...did manage to find an imitation version in Tesco that I like at the moment:) Your outfits are gorgeous too, love your tan Zara blazer:)
ReplyDelete~Anne
Thanks Anne. I took ages to decide whether to go for the J Crew one as I was worried it might look too blingy but it's got just the right amount of sparkle & I have to admit I love it. I'd grab the Tesco one while it's still in stock x
ReplyDeleteOutfit 3 is so cute! I love stacking my bracelets, it's all about the wrist candy.

DeleteI recently treated myself to 2 gorgeous new bracelets inspired by yourself & our Ave57 friend My Fashion Life Has Just Begun! I need more! Lots more! ;) We run an accessories stall here & I really need to utilise the stock more! Love your arm candy! :) Ax
ReplyDeleteYes My Fashion Life Has Just Begun wears some great ones & I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures of your new purchases :) Think I'd be a nightmare running an accessories stall as I'd always want to wear the stock lol! x
DeleteI'm more of a necklace gal, purely because I find bracelets get in the way of everything I need to do during the day. I do like to pile them on at night though, if I'm going out. As always, you look fab. It's horribly unfortunate that everytime I read your blog I seem to be wearing grungy trackie bottoms & a tee ... I instantly feel totally underdressed. (Just to be clear - would never wear such things outside my front door, lol!)
ReplyDeleteLol I can't imagine you in grungy trackie bottoms Helen! Although I think everyone needs at least one pair for some serious chillaxing time :) x
DeleteAs the owner of an online arm candy shop (www.ishopcandy.com) I couldn't agree more about adding it to your simplest wardrobe for an extra oomph. I myself don't particularly wear too much jewelry, but when I add arm candy to my wardrobe it immediately spices it up. Sometimes keeping it simple and elegant with one or two does the trick, while other times it's good to pile them all by the bunch!
ReplyDeleteGreat outfits and post! <3
Thanks Angie, I love dressing up an outfit with a bit of jewellery it's a great way of changing a look x
DeleteRight here is the perfect website for anybody who wishes to understand this topic.
ReplyDeleteYou know a whole lot its almost tough to argue with you (not that I actually would want to…HaHa).
You certainly put a fresh spin on a subject that has been written about for
years. Great stuff, just great!
