Another Summer Wardrobe Staple

Well all this glorious sunshine has got me thinking about another staple every wardrobe should have & that's a pair of denim shorts.

Yes I know what you're going to say - oh you won't find me wearing a pair of shorts out in public but trust me get the right style, slap a bit of fake tan on & shave those legs & you're good to go.  Plus as an added bonus by exposing your legs the sun can tan them too & as opposed to a short skirt/sundress they offer that little bit extra protection against your modesty!

Now when I say a pair of denim shorts don't get me wrong I'm not talking the extremely high waisted variety that seems to be doing the rounds at the moment nor even the Daisy Duke barely covering the bum cheek variety either.  I'm talking a classic pair which when teamed with a great t-shirt or kaftan and some fabulous sandals will look stunning.  And of course denim shorts are never going to go out of fashion, are hard wearing & like a fine wine get better with age.  They even have the added bonus of going with anything, so all you've got to do is be comfortable in your own skin but don't even start looking at your knees, I mean seriously have you ever seen a sexy set?!!! Trust me when worn with confidence you'll look fab!  Oh & if you want to lengthen those legs then team with a great pair of casual wedges :)

So on this basis here's my selection of what's currently available on the hight street.  Starting with H&M where I got a great pair from a couple of years ago.  Obviously no use to you I know but I absolutely love these first ones which are similar in style to my pair & I absolutely love the shade of soft denim.

If however, you don't fancy exposing that much of your leg how about something a little longer in length?

Or if neither of these float your boat how about a boyfriend style, offering a slightly more looser & casual fit?  I love these ones from Next, who incidentally have a great selection of denim shorts in stock at the moment.

Also available in a darker denim if you prefer, which are great for hiding dirt & stains - says she of the slummy mummy brigade!

Or for a more casual, made from an old pair of jeans look, what about these ones from New Look?

I also love these ones from Dorothy Perkins, which are in quite an aged dark denim.

If however, you want a more laid back style but are not a lover of the boyfriend fit how about these ones from Boden which appear to be slightly longer in length with a deeper turn up?

And to finish with there's these frayed ones from Zara, which you won't be surprised to hear I love!

Now if you think I've totally lost the plot & denim shorts are for the under thirties & can't bring yourself to wear some then how about this linen blend pair from Next, a smarter & more elegant version to denim shorts.

Or perhaps these tencel shorts also from Next which are a slim fit but longer in length.

I have to admit that it's only in the last couple of years that I've plucked the courage up to wear my denim shorts on other occasions other than on holiday (where you have to admit they're a great staple) or in the garden but now that I have I absolutely love them.  Granted there are a few factors that need to be present for this to happen - namely that the weather is gloriously sunny & hot but if those factors exist then there's now no stopping me! And in short - no pun intended - honest ;) a pair of denim shorts is not just for Christmas but for life too!

  2. I just gave a pair of Pepe ones away & now I'm kicking myself!! Didn't think they were age appropriate & I never wear them out but on reading 'with a kaftan' I've got all these fab ways of styling them now I no longer have them! Wah!! I may have to get some more! I love the Next boyfriend ones with the turn ups! Ax

    1. Oh I hate it when I do that & it's usually when I've hung onto something for ages & then finally taken the plunge to get rid of it. On the plus side it's the perfect excuse to go shopping ;) x

  3. I'm currently sitting wearing mine in the back garden but doubt I will pluck up the courage to wear them on the walk to school for pick up, however if I had some tan on and after reading your post I just might on another day if this weather continues.

  4. Mine are from H&M too and lovely and comfy. I still haven't plucked up the courage to wear them in this country though. I feel a little "exposed" showing so much leg. But you are right, they do go with every thing just like a pair of old faithful jeans will.

    1. Sue you should give it a go, team it with a kaftan or longer styled top & you won't feel so exposed x
