Wrapping Up

We may have had a very wet couple of weeks (understatement I know!!) but we've been incredibly lucky with the temperatures this autumn, as either I'm starting the menopause early or things have been pretty mild.  Hell I'm still only wearing my cropped leggings for running first thing of a morning & as for gloves they've yet to put in an appearance (of course I take full responsibility for the arctic temperatures that will no doubt now hit us as soon as I hit the 'publish' button!!).  But there is now a slight nip in the air first thing, which can only mean one thing......yup it's time to talk winter coats.

Now whilst I could easily be persuaded to invest in a whole heap of coats this is one area of clothing I try to keep simple, although saying that I may have ooooh 6 winter coats (not including dog walking coats of course!!).  But if you're looking to invest in a new coat you can never go wrong with a camel or navy addition to your wardrobe.  To be honest I'd be hard pressed to choose between the two as I love both colours & find a great styled coat in one of these colours is going to be a wardrobe staple for a long time to come.  Both ooze style & sophistication & when teamed with just a simple white shirt & jeans look effortless.

So without further delay here's my pick of the coats that would be making it onto my wish list this winter if I wasn't being uncharacteristically good, starting with camel ones first.

I totally love this first one from Massimo Dutti, simple, stylish, beautifully cut and being single breasted so easy to throw on.  Not to mention a real staple for your wardrobe as not only would it look stunning worn for the office or dressed up for an evening but equally stunning dressed down with some distressed boyfriends for a relaxed vibe too.

A slightly less formal looking version of the Massimo Dutti one is this Gap car coat.  I'm totally loving how they've styled it with these coloured skinnies & leopard print belt & can really see this working great with some rolled up boyfriends and large scarf (other clothing optional of course ;-) ).

Next up is another offering from Massimo Dutti, which has a more casual & less structured feel.  Great for if you'd rather have something you can just sling on & I love the extra detailing the leather edging gives to the coat.

Now this next coat I must confess to having ordered three times (so far)!!! I really love the shape & style, which is less structured with more of a boyfriend feel & if I wasn't trying to be 'good' *she says as she polishes halo* this beauty would have definitely have found itself a new home.....but I do have a camel coat (more formal in style......so definitely room in the wardrobe for a more casual camel coat) not to mention the other five & my vast collection of jackets & blazers meaning that even I (for the time being) am struggling to justify another purchase!

Lastly on the camel front this one from Zara looks very similar to the Massimo Dutti coat with the main difference being that it's double breasted.....again a great style & shape & if I don't come up with a good enough excuse to purchase the Zara one above then this & all the other coats are going to be making it onto my sales list!

Swiftly moving onto all things navy & starting with a coat that is very similar in style to one I brought last year but in black (ooh could that be an opening for a new navy coat???!).  It's a great length, no worrying about trapping your coat in the car door resulting in a nice dark muddy line (may just be me!!) & you can never ever go wrong with a double breasted navy coat with gold buttons....effortlessly timeless & chic in my mind.

This longer, single breasted version of the Zara one from Massimo Dutti is equally stunning & I'm loving the additional detailing on the shoulders......in fact my navy coat is starting to perhaps show a few signs of wear......maybe just maybe I might be needing to make a new coat purchase after all ;-)

For those of you that prefer a shorter version of the double breasted Zara coat then this one from GAP is sure to tick the right boxes & if navy's not your bag then they also do it in black too!!

Another great shop worth taking a peak in is Banana Republic, as they can be relied on to have some great stylish classics that are not only well made but only just that little bit more expensive than some of the other high street stores.  I'm loving this double breasted navy coat, a great classic investment piece without breaking the bank.

Finally another offering from Zara, (which also happens to come in black.....just saying ;-) ) is this short double breasted jacket/coat.  This would look stunning worn with some navy skinnies, tan boots & a stylish cap...I'm thinking the H&M Captain Cap I recently brought or something similar.

So there you have my round up of the navy & camel coats that have recently caught my eye.  Are you like me & more of a navy/camel kind of girl?  Or have you gone down the route of the pink coat this year?  Maybe you've even broke out the winter coat already?  As always I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Finally a quick round up of what I've been wearing these past few days, starting with a trip to the Orthodontist.....(very rock n'roll!!!) who happens to be the most miserable person I think I've ever had the misfortune to meet!!!  Still if he makes my son's teeth look amazing all will be forgiven :-)

  1. I love the camel coat. I purchased the Saint Germain from Boden ( which suits my love of all things slightly beatnik at the moment ) I tried the Gap car coat and, in the flesh, it is really awful. I was so disappointed as the photo looks great but it was huge at the front and flapping about as if it were designed as a pregnancy item. I am liking some of your' other options but, as I have imposed a complete slowdown on my spends, I will just enjoy looking. xx H You are looking fab in all your' pics. I loved the Gemini shoot but you are a better stylist in your' own clothes.

    1. Aww thanks Helen :-) That's interesting to hear about the GAP coat - so disappointing when that happens....you see something that looks amazing & perfect, order it & get all excited about it's arrival (could just be me!!) & then crash with disappointment when it's no way near as nice as it looked in the photo....gutting!!! I'm trying to be good too - but that Zara coat keeps calling to me!!! xx

  2. You look lovely Jane as always. Why oh why did I throw out my camel coat last year - spitting feathers I am. It was from Richards which disappeared off our High Street- bit of an older ladies shop. Well, actually I say that but it was 20 odd years ago when I was in my 20s so anyone over 40 seemed old to me. The coat was the spitting image of the first Massimo Dutti grrrrrrr I am so cross!! Mind you I do like the leather edged one - maybe I should replace it. Hmmm now there's an idea. Donna x

    1. It's always the way isn't Donna. I'll hang onto things for ages then have a clear out & finally get rid of it only for it to come back into fashion the next season!! Still as you say it's a good excuse for a new purchase ;-) xx

    1. Michelle I'm beginning to think I may need to have a wardrobe just for coats as there are so many beauties out there & of course once you've got a camel coat a different style comes out that would also be 'useful'!!! xx

  4. I have tried that Zara single breasted long blazer one soooo many times, it's almost laughable but it's just a touch long. Which is such a bummer! Will probably go and try it on again tomorrow. Why don't you buy it so I can just admire it from afar - is that reason enough?

    1. Hi School Run Mum no I haven't seem the Massimo Dutti coat in the flesh but I would think it's a great cut as I've not brought anything from there that hasn't been well made & of great quality. I've got things in my wardrobe from there that are years old & still going strong, I would think it's just one of those great classic cuts that will never date. Let me know if you try it on, would love to know what you think x
