Starting To Think About Spring!

Ok so the cold, wet, damp days of winter are far from over (some what of an understatement I know!!) but if like me you're starting to get a bit fed up of your winter wardrobe & even your recent sales bargains have lost their sparkle then you'll be drooling over all the gorgeous new spring items hitting the shops.  Hell perhaps you may even have made the odd new purchase or two & longing for a day when it's not only warm enough but sunny enough to wear said new purchases.

One item of clothing I fancy wearing more of this year is cropped trousers....now fear not I'm not talking cropped trousers that women of a certain age wear & are an unflattering length that fall some way mid calf ooh no, I'm talking cropped trousers that finish just above or on your ankle bone.  Personally I think these are a really sexy length & love to expose my ankles provided of course it's not a day where I'm suffering with cankles & then believe me there's nothing sexy about those!!!

Plus of course you don't have to wait for the warmer brighter months to arrive to start wearing said new purchase as thanks to the invention of the ever 'sexy' pop sock then even in the cooler months your ankles can remain warm & toasty plus provided you pick the right shade, pop socks can even help disguise your white shades of pale (of course this might just be me!) & they can help give you a little colour without having to fake tan but don't worry there's no American Tan in my drawers!!!

Now I already own a pair of black cigarette pants that I brought about 18 months ago & last summer saw me invest in a couple of pairs of distressed pairs of cigarette length jeans plus a floral pair but this year I want to up the anti & get some more cropped trousers as a great alternative to jeans.

So without further a do here's my selection of cropped trousers currently available on the high street.  Starting with a pair that need no explaining as to why they grabbed my attention & you won't be in the least bit surprised to hear that I 'may' have clicked the button!!!!

Yes ok I know I already own one pair of leopard print trousers but they're more of a harlem style in a much thinner fabric which really are only suitable for wearing in much hotter climates....these new beauties however are in a gorgeous heavy cotton so really can be worn pretty much all year round....I'm thinking tuxedo jacket & shoe boots in winter, white shirt & ballet pump come spring & sandals & a cami come summer.....perfect!!!

Keeping with patterned trousers & I'm also loving these textured check trousers from French Connection, perfect for working the monochrome trend that continues to be huge not to mention teaming with a pop of colour.

Moving onto plain ones & I'm loving the look of these cropped trousers from Banana Republic.  The beauty of this style of trouser is they really are so easy to style & can look just as stunning when teamed with a simple slouchy 'V' neck jumper & some ballet pumps for a great daytime look or when worn with court shoes & a blazer for a more dressed up kind of vibe.

These slim cropped ones from Gap also look great as well & I'm loving them teamed with a bright belt, a great way of adding a splash of colour without being too out there.

Plus if you fancy something more fitted in the leg then Gap also do this ultra skinny pair too.

Sticking with navy, which let's face it is a great colour for teaming with most colours in your wardrobe then how about these chambray ones from Banana Republic? I'm loving the idea of teaming them with a slightly slouchy fit shirt.

I quite fancy a pair of boyfriend fit chinos this summer too but worn turned up & this next pair of trousers from Zara may be a great compromise between some chinos & cropped trousers.

Also Available in Black

And Camel

As I've mentioned in a recent blog pale pink seems to be as strong this spring as it was in winter & these stretch capri trousers from Mint Velvet would be perfect for embracing the trend.

If however, you don't want to deviate from your faithful jeans then what about these cream zip ones from Banana Republic?  I think they'd look gorgeous teamed with a navy blazer & some tan ballet pumps.

And for a colour you can wear all year round then what about this dark blue denim pair.  I absolutely LOVE them teamed with this gorgeous shade of pink.

So what do you think?  Are you a lover of the cropped trouser?  Do you agree with me & think there's something sexy about an exposed ankle?

Finally here's a quick round up of what I've been wearing these past few days.

Outfit One

Faux Fur Gilet - Zara
Jumper - Gap
Necklace - Zara
Leather Cuff - Banana Republic
Trousers - Zara
Boots - Zara

Outfit Two

Jeans - Zara
Wedge Trainers - Ash

Outfit Three

Blouse - Marks & Spencer
Bracelets - Banana Republic
Belt - New Look
Jeans - Zara
Boots - Boden

So what do you think?  Tempted to join me with the leopard print ones or will you only be raising your skirt hem lines come the warmer months & not your trousers?!!!  As always I'd love to hear your thoughts not to mention if you're a lover of these shorter length trousers how you'll be wearing yours.

Of course given the awful weather conditions it's hard to even contemplate anything other than full on waterproofs & wellies but thinking spring/summer has got to be a great diversion to the worry of large swaying trees, floods & the storm we are currently experiencing.....well that's my excuse ;-)

Stay safe & see you in a couple of days when my inner magpie will be back out in force!!

  2. I really can't contemplate anything that exposes flesh at the moment but I do think they're a really flattering length of trouser. I agree that there's something quite sexy about the length too. Can't quite imagine being in lighter clothes again with this awful weather! Lynne x

  8. Hi Jane, I am a huge fan of cropped or ankle grazing trousers, such a versatile look. Love the animal print zara trousers. Have you ever looked at Top Shop Jamie jeans, they come in an ankle grazing length, have a lovely fit, with a slight high waist. Love your posts

  9. Being tall I find cropped trousers hard to wear - they all just look like they are normal trousers that are too short for me!
