Ok something a little bit different today & seeing as so far I haven't gone down the trainer or slip-on trend & in a total contrast to the sports luxe look that is big this season I've decided to go a bit off piste!!! The other day when I just 'happened' to find myself on the ASOS site I came across these bow neck ties & I have to say they really appealed. I think you're either going to love them or hate them & if I'm honest I'm still a little bit undecided but am definitely leaning more towards the love them category.....not sure why but there we go!!
One thing that is perhaps worrying me slightly is that I can only find them on ASOS, so either ASOS are ahead of the game or have slightly lost the plot!!! Anyway here's a picture of what I'm talking about & a selection of the ones I found on ASOS.
Or if you prefer they also do a scalloped edged version.
Or if you prefer something a little smaller then what about these?
And finally if you want something less plain & are a lover of animals then they also have a couple of patterned ones too!! I think you can safely say ASOS have this trend well & truly covered!!
Personally I prefer the larger of the two sizes & without the scalloped edge.....I think there's enough going on with the oversized bow.
So having decided to bite the bullet & investigate further I ordered the grey & black versions as I figure they would be great for all seasons. Of course come the warmer months *crosses fingers* it's going to be too hot to wear something like this but for the transitional weather it's a great way of adding a bit of interest & being that little bit different (hopefully in a good way mind!!).

The bows have an adjustable neck (think in a bra strap but non-elastic kind of way) and fasten easily. I'm thinking they'd also be great worn with the same coloured blouse to make a normal blouse into a pussy bow version too.
So here's a very quick dressing up session & when I say quick I mean quick, blink & you'll miss it!!
Firstly with double denim, although on reflection I'm thinking that this would look better teamed with some black skinnies. Although I did love the Peter Pan collar of my denim shirt with the bow.
Denim Shirt - Zara £19.99
Oversized Bow Tie - ASOS £8
Belt - New Look
Leather Cuff - Banana Republic
Jeans - Zara
Shoes - Next
Second outfit & out of my two outfits I much prefer this one. I've kept the back of my collar up & then angled the front of the collar from the back to the front, a bit like a winged collar if that makes sense. Although goodness knows what was going on with my hair....I'm blaming the wind!!!
Shirt - Zara
Oversized Bow Tie - ASOS £8
Bracelet - J Crew £125
Jeans - Zara
Shoes - Zara
So what do you think? Do they appeal or not, are you with me or leaving me standing in the playground on my own?!!!
Finally a quiet day ahead resting my tender bruised feet after a full of successful day of fun shopping with my mum. Thankfully no illness to spoil yesterday's events, which saw us conduct a full smash & grab on the shops - with some lovely new purchases for both of us....luckily half the clothes we tried on didn't make it past the changing rooms....otherwise I don't think my hubby would be speaking to me today ;-) Oh & if you fancy having a make up refresher course then I can't recommend Bobbi Brown highly enough, the girl who did my mum's was fantastic & spent two hours going through step by step from cleansing, moisturising to the make over - totally fab & free of charge too! So for a day of chillaxing here's what I'm wearing.

So what do you think, are you a lover of the oversized bow tie or do you think it resembles something a clown is more likely to wear? I promise they don't squirt water or randomly spin round but I can't guarantee they won't raise a few laughs!!! So whose joining me? Are you in or are you out?
Have a great Sunday & see you in the morning.

It's not something I would personally wear but as with most things, it doesn't mean that I don't admire them on others. First up I thought my youngest daughter would love these as she has a quirky dress sense. Out of your two outfits I love the smaller grey one on your white shirt, it looks really good Jane. Agree with your first outfit, I think black jeans would balance the bow out more, but yes loving them on you and great to see someone taking the plunge into unknown territory and rocking it! xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharron, yes the second outfit definitely looks better & they're a great alternative to a scarf. Plus they're definitely something just that little bit different so for the price they've found a new home in my wardrobe.

Ohhh I'm really not sure, I use to wear one of these in my early banking days so they will always remind me of my uniform. I will sit on the side lines and quietly observe this trend Jane. Love your sweatshirt x
ReplyDeleteAh now you see I never had a uniform Donna so perhaps that's why they appeal more to me. I'm not saying they will be replacing my scarves but still a great alternative for days when I feel like being a bit different!

The bow tie looks very cute Jane, great to see you styling it! Love your look today, fab laid back chic x
ReplyDeleteThanks Michelle :-)

The bow scares me! It reminds me of my waitressing days, we were made to wear a novelty bow like this!
ReplyDeleteJumper is amazing though
Lol Fiona....I'm guessing you didn't keep your waitressing one then?!!!

Love your sweatshirt, Jane, but I'm not loving the bows at all I'm afraid. It reminds me of a party blouse I had in mint green with a big bow when I was about 9 years old! Lynne x
ReplyDeleteYes they definitely have a bit of a 'party' blouse element to them Lynne....for some reason they appeal....could it be the start of the mid-life crisis?!!!!
DeleteJane xx
Being honest they are ridiculous looking.
ReplyDeleteHi thanks for commenting, as I mentioned in my post I knew they wouldn't be to everyone's taste but for some reason they appeal to me!! I'll put it down to my mid-life crisis ;-)

I actually think these are a fun idea! I love your second outfit! I quite like the look of the chiffon elephant print one as it's quite delicate and I bet it would look great with your first outfit too. xxx

Thanks Emma, I think they're great for a change from a scarf, just need to get the black one to work better but I'm sure with a bit of dressing up that can be done!

I just LOVE these, though I agree black skinnies in the first would tie it (boom boom!) together more. Being a retro lover, I can tell you that they went for big bows on necklines in the 60s/70s (hang on, scrabbling around for an example....)

I wear a smaller one myself, it's a 'Western' tie that Cowboys wear, here's a link to some pics of me wearing it:

It's actually my OH's, but I steal it sometimes!! I think I'd wear a bigger bow but stick to a monochrome colour scheme, it would feel a bit French then. They love taking something like a plain white blouse and then sticking black bows on it.
Nice to see something a bit fun and different.

Hi Porcelina, yes I must really try the first one on with black skinnies. Thanks for the links I'll definitely check these out.
