Pom Poms, Tassels & WIWT

Ever since I purchased my ASOS hot pink pom pom clutch last summer I've developed a bit of thing for pom poms & tassels.  In fact it was what prompted my purchase of a beautiful pom pom edged scarf in Majorca last summer (see here)  & ever since I've been on the look out for something similar.

So with tassels & pom poms not to mention fringing being huge this summer a couple of weeks ago I had a bit of a lightbulb moment & decided to go onto the internet to see if I could source some pom pom trim to sew onto some scarves already hanging in my wardrobe.

Needless to say it didn't disappoint with the range on offer & after a bit of thought I decided to order some of the below jumbo (20mm) sized trim.

So many colours to choose from but in the end I picked grey & cerise.

And these are the two scarves I decided to edge.

At first I had thought of edging my blue scarf with the cerise & the pink & white with the grey but in the end decided to keep the pink & white scarf all pink & team the grey pom pom trim with the blue scarf.

Then after decideding on my colours it was just a matter of sewing the trim along all four edges of each scarf.  Now I could of got the sewing machine out to do this & it really would of taken a matter of minutes but I've always preferred hand sewing & have spend many an hour completing various embroideries so I decided to hand stitch the trims on with a small delicate running stitch, literally catching a couple of threads of both the trim & scarf so that the stitches wouldn't be seen.

And here are the finished articles!

Naturally I had to have a very quick trying on session!!

I'm absolutely delighted with the way they've turned out, even if with the one scarf I had to turn up the fraying edges of the scarf before I could attach the trim, which meant the job took me a lot longer than I'd originally planned.  Not only do I now have two unique scarves I think you'll agree that the plain non-descript blue scarf has totally been transformed.  Plus I've also got plenty of spare trim left so I'm planning on attaching it to a couple of other scarves too & for a different look I might just try adding it to two opposite sides as opposed to the four.

Of course not everyone enjoys sewing but fear not there are plenty of pom pom edged scarves around this season, with the below beauties being my favourites.

Jigsaw have the biggest selection & I just love the colour contrast with the first scarf......perhaps I should have stuck with my original plan of edging my pink one in grey!!

I just love this next one from Hush.  As you can see from the below image it really is a game changer in taking a simple plain outfit up a step or two.

A mixture between the two Hush one's with this next stunning one from Mango.

Something a bit more delicate with this one from Phase Eight - again pink & grey - damn it I so should have stuck with the original plan!!

This white and yellow one from East is stunning isn't it & would be perfect for those cooler summer days.  How gorgeous would this look when teamed with a navy blazer too!!

Going back to Jigsaw now & they really do have a great selection of plain coloured pom pom edged scarves, if money was no object I'd certainly be ordering a few of these!

Moving onto a smaller pom pom with this stunning one from Boden.  As you know I've also got this beauty hanging in my wardrobe, which I've recently styled here.

Or if you're more of a tassel kind of girl, personal I'm in love with both, then Next have this stunning scarf at an incredible £14.

Or finally how about this fab one from ASOS perfect for jazzing up a monochrome look.

Finishing with my outfit for today - off out super early to another antiques fair (well we don't want to miss the bargains!) & looking forward to seeing what we can find!  I know it's supposed to be another good one as far as the weather's concerned but I've decided to take no chances & throw my parka on as after all I can always take it off & there's nothing worse than being cold is there.

  4. Jane your creative genius knows no bounds lol! What a fabulous idea - so simple but so effective. I especially love the pink scarf. You've definately inspired me to go pom pom shopping. I'm sure many of us have scarves sitting unworn and unloved in a cupboard that will have a new lease of life with a little "pom pomery". Good luck at the antiques fair - please show us how you get on.xxxx

  12. What a brilliant idea! I have been hankering after that Hush scarf, and I really can't justify it, so I'd been looking at the Mango with the orange trim instead. I might just go back and have a look in the wardrobe to see what I can customise though, after seeing this! xx
