"Timeless everyday style"

Midlife Loves

All About The Body Today & I'm Not Talking Elle McPherson!

I'm a firm believer in what goes around comes around in life & that also includes fashion & trends.  My case in point being that we've already seen that the 70s have had a huge revival this Spring, with the high street being awash with boho inspired garments not to mention flares.

Fast forward to this season & you may have noticed that for Autumn as well as the 70s the 80s are making a comeback too!  So far so good in that I think it's safe to say there's no dodgy perms on the horizon - gosh I think my hair has only just recovered from the last time! But one trend that does seem to have been revived is the body.

So come on ladies, whose going to admit to having a body to two in your wardrobes in the eighties?!  I have to confess I absolutely loved mine & had several different colours of both the long sleeved & short sleeved variety in a scoop neck design.  They were absolutely perfect for wearing under a beloved jacket or two either with a pencil skirt for work or jeans on a night out.

Now I was recently approached by Scandinavian Statements, a new UK brand focused on Scandinavian fashion and jewellery & asked if I would like to take a look at one of their lines The Bodystocking. At first my mind instantly fast forwarded to the bodies I originally wore in the 80s but on further investigation on their website I was pleasantly surprised by what I found.  In fact once styled you wouldn't even know seem of these were an all in one.

Just take a look at this beauty.  How stunning would this look styled with this skirt for a special occasion this Christmas.  The neckline is just gorgeous.

The Bodystocking Casual Lace

Or what about this top for a more everyday look.  Certainly a lot different to the bodies that were doing the rounds in the 80's & I think it would look amazing teamed with some distressed boyfriend jeans, a classic blazer & trainers for a casual effortless daytime look.

Scandinavian Statements The Bodystocking Corporate

This next one would be perfect for either an evening occasion in the winter - team with cigarette pants & heels for evening chic or come the summertime a long flowing maxi skirt & layer up the bracelets.

The Bodystocking Delicate

Or what about this one for timeless beauty.  Again a great alternative for a special occasion & for those that don't want to wear a little black dress.  Team with a black tuxedo styled trouser suit for three wardrobe staples that can be intermixed throughout the year or alternatively either a leather pencil skirt or taffeta maxi skirt for effortless glamour.

The Bodystocking Seductive

I've been lucky enough to have been sent the 'Seductive' body to review & it really is gorgeous (not to mention comfy).  Size wise I went for a small & it fits beautifully - not too tight but not too loose to produce gathering either.  Now I will admit I was a little concerned with sizing as on their website the fit is described as 'skintight' so I was unsure whether to size up but having raised the question was advised to stick to my normal sizing & I'm glad I did as the medium would have been too big.  Length wise the body is also a great fit - again I was worried that it would be super tight & had visions of having to pull the two under pieces together to fasten but there's no tugging or pulling involved & more importantly no cutting sensation either!

As soon as I saw the lace on this body I instantly thought it would be perfect for a Christmas party themed outfit, so for today's outfit that's how I've styled it.  Teaming it with leather leggings, a wide leather belt to tie the two pieces together, my off white tuxedo jacket & court shoes (in an attempt to hide my bandaged toes!) but once healed I'd probably opt for a statement strappy pair.

So ladies what do you think, is it a yay or nay?!  I have to admit I thought I'd been there & done it as far as bodies were involved as I only envisaged plain scoop neck versions like those I wore first time around but I have to admit I'm absolutely loving these new versions, especially the extra detailing that give the impression of a shirt without the worry of becoming untucked not to mention the advantage of smooth lines.  Plus I don't know if it's old age fast approaching but I rather enjoy the benefit of a warm back too ;-) but hey that's just between you & me right?!

Whatever your thoughts with brands such as Topshop, La Redoute & New Look stocking a wide range it looks like the body is back - the question is will you or won't you?!  And just to tempt you further Scandinavian Statements have kindly sent me a discount code to share, simply enter MIDLIFE at checkout to get 5% off all November orders.

  2. It's a big nay from me, I'm afraid. I wore them a lot in the eighties and I just couldn't go back - they were so awkward to wear!! Yours is styled beautifully though. Lynne xx

    1. Thanks Lynne, it's strange isn't it as I remember the original bodies to be awkward with not enough length but these seem really long in the body so much easier to wear & style.
