Morning ladies today I thought we'd go right back to basics & talk underwear. Come the summer months & thinner fabrics it's of course really important to have the right underwear to wear. Plus if you can keep to a neutral colour palette it also makes it easier to pack light when going away.
A question I'm often asked when wearing a cami is what strapless bra I'm wearing. This beauty below is this season's model of the one I bring out each summer & is available in three colours - white, almond & black. I have invested in both the black & almond, as the almond is a great nude colour for wearing under light dresses & tops but I've found you really do need a black strapless bra too when wearing dark colours. Not only are these bras padded with removable straps I can also vouch for the fact that they really don't budge whilst wearing them & for a strapless bra they're pretty comfortable. I never find strapless bras to be particularly pretty or sexy but I love that this one has a little bit of lace detailing to soften the look without distracting from the smooth lines needed when wearing a fine material. Plus the shape it gives is pretty natural & flattering.
I've also invested in this bra below this season as I have a low backed dress that needs either a transparent back strap or crossover straps lower down my back. This bra seems to cover all bases as unlike my other strapless bras it also allows you to wear a plunge neckline so should prove a useful addition & again is available in 3 colours.
Of course the other necessity when wearing thinner & lighter fabrics is to invest in some No VPL pants. I haven't tried these but these look like they'd be perfect & wouldn't cut off any blood supplies like a thong. Plus as they're available in the same colours as the bras it will create the illusion of being a set, which if you're like me & like to match your bras to your pants is a huge bonus.
I find some summer tops can be quite see-through, so owning a few black & nude vests can come in really handy. Not only to provided a much needed layer for warmth during our British summer but also for protecting your modesty. Depending on what I'm wearing I find it useful to have both a longline & shorter length vest to choose from & you've guessed it yup I have black & nude versions in both!
Now this next item is a 'must have' for me & yes may seem a bit granny-fied but I'd rather be wearing one of these than having a Lady Diana moment when the sun shines! Again I've invested in both a black & nude version & have gone for the shortest length (it's actually available in 4 different lengths & 3 different colours) as I find this is perfect for wearing under any length skirt/dress including strapless.
For maxi dresses that need both a vest & underskirt you could of course invest in a full slip as this will create a smoother line not to mention be cooler in hotter climates. This first one would be perfect to wear under most maxi dresses.
Or as an alternative (& again I've invested in these) this two pack shorter version would do the job perfectly not to mention mean you're covered no matter what the length of dress/skirt. Plus it's available in 3 different lengths.
Or for something which will help to smooth & flatter what about this 100 ways to wear slip that has padding & can be worn without straps. Available in two colours - almond & black this would also do away with the need for a bra.
And finally these are something I wear all year round & are a real wardrobe necessity - the very sexy pop sock! Now I've tried both the knee high & the ankle highs & my preference is definitely the latter as I find with the knee highs I end up with a not very flattering ring around the top of my calf which is pretty deep & I tend to worry about it cutting off circulation! Plus & yes this is a very fine line I think (said loosely of course!) that the ankle highs are ever so slightly less middle aged & more sexy?!!
So there you have my basics that get me through the summer months & in my book definitely worth investing in.

So ladies what are your underwear saviours come the summer? Are there any necessities I've forgotten to cover or perhaps there's an item you swear by? If so I'd love to hear.
Enjoy your Sunday & I'll see you in the morning.
Totally with you on underwear apart from strapless which I struggle with as I am buxom! I love your OOTD, and the pic reminded me that I have recently become estranged from my grey jeans and how I do miss them. Are the FCs soft? (cannot abide thick jean fabric) and high waisted? (they seem borderline in you SMS pic, difficult to tell without a try-on)
ReplyDeleteOh I love my grey jeans. The French Connection jeans are gorgeous & incredibly comfortable to wear & whilst they're not high waisted they do sit slightly higher up than my normal low rise jeans. I'd certainly highly recommend them & could easily add several other colours to my collection. Definitely worth a try. Let me know how you get on.
