Morning ladies today I want to talk workwear. A tricky subject at the best of times as whilst we may want to look work appropriate we don't necessarily want to have to let fashion & our personal style take a back seat. From the emails I get & working with my various clients I know it's something a lot of you struggle with. So when I was recently asked by John Lewis to create some workwear outfits from their collection, which features many brands including Modern Rarity & Kin I didn't hesitate in saying yes.
As I've already mentioned whilst some of us work in more corporate settings, we want our personality to come through in our clothing. I don't know about you but when I worked in an office environment I didn't necessarily just want my work clothing to be restricted to just the office. So investing in a well cut & fitted blazer that can be worn to work then dressed up with heels & jeans on a night out is always going to be a great investment & the same can be said for many separates. A simple cashmere jumper worn over a tailored shirt will look just as great at the weekend when teamed with jeans & a thick scarf & the same goes for many pieces, including a winter coat, leather pencil skirt, an understated shift dress & even a tailored white shirt. I mean who doesn't love boyfriend jeans when worn with a white shirt & trainers?

As you can see from the various outfits I've put together, separates are definitely the best way forward for creating a versatile & capsule wardrobe. Plus if you stick to a mainly muted colour palette consisting of approximately 3-4 colours that compliment each other you should be able to create multiple outfits from a few key pieces.
Take for example cigarette pants - teamed with court shoes or ballet pumps they're never going to date & can so easily be used to create several different looks. Team with a simple top & tailored blazer, to a tailored white shirt & statement necklace & trench then come the colder months a polo neck jumper & either a fitted leather jacket or a classic camel coat with ankle boots. Plus of course when teamed with an off the shoulder top, statement clutch & heels they make a great going out outfit too.
As well as advising my clients to stick with a muted colour palette I also advise them to invest in some key colourful accessories that can be used to add personality to a look. From a statement necklace to a colourful silk scarf to a bright across body bag or leopard print ballet pumps. These items can go a long way in creating your own look & can easily be worn time & time again across a wide range of looks.

For me accessories are definitely a great way of incorporating the latest trends without having to cost the earth, so when you're shopping to a budget invest the biggest proportion in classic, well cut, tailored clothing & then have some fun with your accessories.
Onto what I'm wearing today & I'm bringing out an old animal print shirt dress, which I'm styling with some nude ankle boots, my black biker jacket & a great waist buckle belt that is just brilliant for bringing a look together.

So ladies what are your thoughts on workwear? Is it something your struggle with? Perhaps you're one of the lucky ones & have to wear a uniform so it's something you don't have to give a second thought to. Or maybe you spend hours starring at your wardrobe wondering what to wear & never seem to find any inspiration. As always I'd love to hear your thoughts & views.
Have a great day ladies & if you are on the look out for a few new pieces this season for work then you can see John Lewis' full workwear range here.
