Morning ladies for this month's post concentrating on what's new at Marks & Spencer I thought I'd try something different & feature my top picks from their 'new into store' & share how I'd style certain pieces to create day to night looks. As let's face it with Christmas fast approaching we're all probably starting to think about those festive parties & celebrations & what to wear. Plus if you're anything like me you'll hate the idea of buying something for a special event that's then going to remain sitting in your wardrobe until the next occasion that calls for something a little bit more dressy/sparkly.
You may remember last year I bought a gorgeous brocade navy midi skirt from Marks & the black skirt I've featured above reminds of it. A stunning skirt that will work with a biker jacket & trainers as much as it will dressed up for an evening do. I've worn mine teamed with various pieces from a simple cashmere crew neck, a timeless fitted white shirt & a breton but equally it would look fab with a lace trim camisole or even an off the shoulder blouse. It's one of those pieces that you'll instantly feel special & glam in I guarantee it.
If you're a fan of Sex In The City & SJP then you'll love the idea of a tulle skirt. Again I bought a grey maxi from Marks earlier in the year & have teamed it with both a biker & a blazer. I also grabbed a navy version in the summer sales, which I can't wait for an occasion to wear with my tuxedo jacket. I love the black tulle version I've picked above, which I'd team with a simple cashmere crew neck jumper & ballet flats for a more casual daytime look but if wearing for a party then what about this stunning one shoulder bow blouse & fabulous red heels - love, love, love!
Now the next item I've chosen may not look that special but believe me it's stunning. In fact I'm wearing it today, so I'll share some pictures in a bit. Strangely as you've probably gathered by now I'm not one to be drawn to bright large patterned clothing but as soon as I spotted this it was love at first sight, which I think is to do with the stunning blue & green shades. This pussy bow tie neck midi dress falls beautifully & as I've shown above can easily be adapted to be worn for general everyday life as much as it can a meal out. Personally I prefer the bow to be undone so that the dress doesn't look too solid & shows a little bit of skin & neck but if I was wearing it with a cropped fitted jacket I would think about bowing it to create a bit more of an additional statement.
We all know how much a love a blazer or two ;-) & if you're looking for a black version with gold buttons then this double breasted timeless beauty might be right up your street. I'm having to resist the urge to 'click the button' as even I can honestly say I don't need any more jackets but it's proving hard to resist! Perfect for a simple jeans & top combo as much as it is for dressing up with a maxi skirt & blouse. Again with this pussy bow blouse I'd personally leave it undone as I think it looks less formal & a little more sexy.
For my final outfit I've picked a timeless wool wrap coat. I mean who doesn't love a grey winter beauty like this. Perfect for pairing with denim & this stunning metallic & pleated detail blouse, as much as it is for keeping you warm when worn over your LBD. This is definitely something you'd find yourself reaching for year after year.
I've been lucky enough to have been asked by Marks to style a few of my favourite pieces. So what I have I chosen? Well I'd seen this skirt online & had quickly bypassed it as I hadn't realised that it's made from a faux leather material, which is a fab fabric for this time of year. Plus because of the heaviness of the fabric the pleats hang beautifully & despite worrying that it might fall at an unflattering length it's perfect for my height & I would say falls between a maxi & midi length so ideal for everyday wear. For a casual everyday look I've teamed it with a real wardrobe staple and this cashmere oversized cardi, some timeless ballet pumps & a breton. But equally it would look stunning with a statement blouse & blazer or trainers & a crew neck jumper. In terms of size I would say it's pretty true to size. Yes I could probably have sized down due to the elasticated waist but I preferred my normal size which I'm wearing on my hips for that little bit of added length.

As I mentioned earlier in the post one of my other picks was this dress that I've featured above. I've gone for a simple look of teaming it with my trusted biker jacket & these velvet ankle boots, which were my other pick this month. In terms of sizing I would say both are true to size. I'm wearing an 8 in the dress & the boots a 6½. The dress is beautifully made & feels really luxurious plus I love that the tie neck has a high collar at the back of the neck making it fall better when wearing the tie undone than if there was no collar at the back. If you like the fabric but aren't a dress person then check out the blouse in the same fabric here.

Wow, those are all great, timeless combinations. Makes me wish we still had a M&S here in Canada. That dress is absolutely stunning and it looks great on you!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Brenda, what a pity you no longer have an M&S over in Canada. I'd be lost without my fix not to mention their foodhall.
DeleteHope you're having a good week.

You should style all M&S clothes! You do a much better job than their website. I would not have looked twice at that dress on the website, seeing you wearing it - I’ve ordered it.
ReplyDeleteOh Lynn that's such a lovely thing for you to say, thank you so much :-) You'll love the dress it's really easy to wear, enjoy your new purchase.

Hello Jane
ReplyDeleteYou have made me look twice at that blue and green dress too, I think I’m going give it a try.
Funnily enough, I have already purchased the metallic spotted long sleeve blouse, it hangs beautifully. I have also purchased the black lace bodycon dress within that group too. Great minds and all that.
Yes definitely give the dress a try it really is a stunner. The metallic blouse is gorgeous too - I'm very tempted! Like you say great minds :-)
