Morning ladies & happy Sunday. For this month's collaboration with Marks & Spencer I thought we could talk capsule wardrobes & the key pieces every wardrobe should possess. Those mix & match pieces that can see you through the season & create many a timeless look.
I'm a big fan of stylish classics, pieces that you'll find yourself reaching for time & time again. Items that will stand the test of time, can be dressed up or down & that can be teamed with the odd 'on trend' piece of the season to bring your wardrobe bang up to date.
As you can see from my top 15 picks I've stuck to a monochrome palette with the odd splash of red, which is perfect for injecting a little colour & personality to your look.

So starting with a classic slim fit trouser. These make a great all year round wardrobe staple that can easily be dressed up or down. Team with a biker jacket & flats for everyday or style up with a blazer & heels for work or of an evening. Personally I prefer this style of trouser slightly cropped & falling on/just above the ankle bone, so even if the trousers are standard length, think about buying a shorter/petite length to achieve this look or alternatively get them altered to fall just above your ankle bone. In terms of what top to pair them with, the choice is endless - a denim shirt or simple breton or even a sweatshirt during the day. Style up with a classic white or silk shirt & statement necklace for evening or go for a real timeless look of teaming with an elegant cashmere jumper such as a roll neck & then finish the look off with heels & a statement bracelet or two.

Another wardrobe 'must have' for me has to be a patterned maxi dress, something that can be dressed down with trainers & a biker jacket or even a pop of colour with ballet pumps. Or for a more dressier occasion then pair with heeled ankle boots & a blazer. Depending on the collar of the dress you can even wear with either a crew or polo neck jumper to give the illusion of a maxi skirt & for a simple change to the dress think about investing in a couple of belts - possibly a statement studded number & then a wide waist one for changing the look further.
Now most of us probably own at least one, if not several pairs of jeans. I know I'd certainly be lost without mine & love when Summer starts turning to Autumn & I can drag them back out again. A dark slim leg pair are ideal for dressing up or down & providing the length is right, making a small turn up for a more casual look can add interest to the simplest of day looks & also look really elegant if dressing up for a night out.
Of course styling jeans couldn't be easier. A classic white shirt & blazer/biker jacket, ballet pumps & a cashmere crew neck jumper, trainers & a breton. A slogan knit & block heel ankle boots or even heels & a silk shirt the options really are endless.
Finally a midi length skirt is another wardrobe staple. For everyday teamed with trainers, a slogan knit/sweatshirt & biker jacket. For something a little smarter kitten heel boots, a cropped jacket paired with a cami or even heels with a cashmere knit & statement belt for effortless style.

Back to today & it's an all grey look from me. If you've been following me for a while you'll know by now that I love all things grey. So today I'm mixing a few different shades together including a couple of holiday buys plus my latest addition to my cashmere collection this lovely longline cardigan that's going to soon earn it's keep - I can't wait to team it with another of my holiday purchases - some leather leggings. In terms of sizing I'm wearing the XS & would say it's true to size.

So ladies, tempted to give the capsule wardrobe a try? I don't know about you but there are days where a small capsule wardrobe really appeals & then of course there are others where I stand in front of my wardrobe & declare I've nothing to wear, which I'm sure is probably something most of us can resonate with.
However, whilst most of us no doubt own far more than 15 pieces of clothing, hopefully today's post has given you food for thought in creating a capsule wardrobe on which to build your style, whether that be after loosing/putting on weight, wanting a more timeless look or even the start of a new chaper in your life.
