Morning ladies. Hands up, who like me loves a boyfriend fit shirt? I have to admit it's my favourite fit as it's perfect for keeping cool in summer but equally looks extremely stylish when worn in the cooler months too.
Whilst I may have a few of this fit of shirt hanging in my wardrobe I've never actually tried/worn one of my hubby's shirts out. So when I was recently approached by Ralph Lauren to see if I'd accept the challenge of styling one of their men's shirts I jumped at the chance.
Of course it also meant I was able to enjoy looking through the vast arrange of styles, colours & men's casual shirts. After much deliberation I eventually went for their Oxford Knit Shirt, because firstly I fell in love with the colour, which is such a timeless shade of blue (you can see all their other blue shirts here) which is perfect for wear all year round. Secondly because I liked the idea of a shirt that wasn't too stiff to wear & had a softness to it. Thirdly because of the slim-fit design & finally I like the idea of adding a button down collar to my collection.
In terms of sizing as I wanted the fit to look oversized I went with an L but equally if I was looking for a more tailored fit I could certainly size down a few sizes.
So firstly what do I think of the shirt? Well it's perfect - the colour is just gorgeous & great for teaming with a tan. The fit is exactly how I hoped it would be - loose, oversized but not too loose that there's no shape & the fabric is so soft & drapes beautifully.
So how would I suggest you style a man's shirt? Well today I've put together 3 looks.

For the first look I went with a classic combination of chinos & ballet pumps. The perfect transitional outfit. Come Autumn this is the type of look I love to wear & will also be planning on swapping the chinos to style the shirt with skinny jeans & leather leggings.

For the second outfit I've paired the shirt with a floral maxi skirt, to create a softer more feminine feel but I also can't wait to team the shirt with an 'A' line pleather skirt come the colder weather.

Sandals - bought locally
And for the final look I've gone with some classic denim & my favourite pair of boyfriend denim style shorts. The loose fit of the shorts perfectly compliments the oversized fit of the shirt but still looks 'put together' by loosely tucking the front half of the shirt into my shorts. Plus with the simplicity of this look it highlights how perfect this style shirt is for pairing with some statement jewellery.

So ladies what do you think? Are you tempted to shop a men's shirt for a change? I have to say I love it so much hubby is now panicking that none of this shirts are safe! Plus what a great way of acquiring some new shirts by treating your other half to pieces that you can wear too ;-)
Enjoy your day & I'll be back as always tomorrow.
Great choice of shirt that you made! Love all looks, so stylish and laid back.
ReplyDeleteThanks Deb, it's a gorgeous colour isn't it & is going to prove to be so useful.
