The Delights of a Maxi Skirt!

So following on from my last blog, it's not rocket science to say that the same benefits for a maxi dress apply for a maxi skirt!  However, there is one additional benefit in that with a maxi skirt you can obviously alter your look more by mixing it with different tops & colours.  Which can be extremely useful when jetting off on holiday to minimise packing (not to mention the washing & ironing!) & also to allow plenty of room in your suitcase for spendage while away!  (Of course this may just be me :) )

So with hubby currently informing me of the glorious sweltering heat he is having to 'endure' whilst over in Dubai on business, I have put my green eyed monster back in its box & have concentrated my efforts on having a look at what's out there in terms of maxi skirts for when temperatures in the UK decide to rise to skin exposing weather & also in readiness for our longed for summer hols!

Now I have already posted about this first skirt but I absolutely love it & because of it's price thought it deserved a second mention!  I think this is going to look great with some simple draped/vest t-shirts.  The only downside is it doesn't have a slit so I may have to resort to shuffling along instead of walking but the fabric seems to have plenty of give so hoping this isn't the case!

A similar skirt in regards to pattern is this gorgeous one from ASOS which isn't straight so won't require baby steps and I really love the grey tones.  Again this would look great with a fitted t-shirt & if you're anything like me you won't even be contemplating wearing it with a cropped top - muffin top plus stretch marks is sooo not a good look on me although I'd be guaranteed to clear the room!

This next skirt from Mint Velvet is also similar in design just different tones but a tad more expensive but if you've got the budget would look stunning.

Last year I spotted a gorgeous chiffon pleated maxi skirt in black from Zara (no surprise there!).  It was stunning, fitted on the hips then gently falling out into a flared style but unfortunately the material next to the zip was all puckered & trying to be sensible I didn't re-order but boy do I regret it as it was just one of those skirts that would have been in my wardrobe forever & could so easily be dressed up or down.  I have however, this year spotted this gorgeous skirt from ASOS which looks very similar & is available in two gorgeous colours.  The question is do I buckle & order & if so which colour as I love them both!!!

Turning to Next they also have a great selection which the following ones really standing out for me.

For some reason this year I'm being drawn to strong bright colours, whether it's part of the big four-0 approaching I don't know but I love the colour of this pink skirt and the slight gypsy style at the bottom, together with this gorgeous coral skirt as well.

On the total opposite scale of my current love of everything bright I'm also finding myself drawn to a grey maxi skirt and love these two from Next.

I've not shopped at Phase Eight before but this stunning grey linen maxi skirt caught my eye on the John Lewis website.  Again a real classic which would look stunning worn with a white t-shirt and denim jacket.

This stunning cream tulle skirt from Massimo Dutti is another classic & would look gorgeous for a summer wedding/christening.

And finishing where we started with New Look, this white gypsy skirt is a real must.  Not only will it go with everything not to mention look absolutely fab with a denim jacket but for the price you can just enjoy wearing it & not worry about any marks that might stain (I'm thinking Pimms on a hot summers day ;) ).

Not quite as summer inspiring as the above but here's what I've been wearing the last couple of days.

Outfit One

Scarf - Zara
Jumper - GAP
Linen Biker Jacket - Zara
Leather Cuffs - Massimo Dutti
Jeans - Zara
Shoes - brought in Majorca

Outfit Two

Necklace - New Look
Grey/Silver Metallic Top - Zara
Long Sleeved T-Shirt - H&M
Jeans - Zara
Sparkly Ballet Flats - Zara

Outfit Three

Jacket - Massimo Dutti
T-shirt - Zara
Scarf - Massimo Dutti
Jeans - Zara
Shoes - brought in Majorca

So what do you think, do you love a maxi skirt or do you prefer a maxi dress where you don't have to think about what top to wear?  Or may be you prefer a shorter skirt all together.

As always I love hearing your views.  In the meantime have a good couple of days & if you're anything like me, you're on the count down to the Bank Holiday - hooray! x

  4. I've done a few posts about maxis, my own take on a maxi skirt, I had no idea they were actually 'in', but they are quite tricky to find good tops to go with, especially for those with tree trunk waists (something you clearly don't have to think about!) The Maxi dress is a little more forgiving.

  5. Yes the maxi dress is definitely something that you can throw on without having to worry about but with the right accessories and layering a maxi skirt can also look great x

  8. I like your style! This was helpful to me. I'm 35 now, and I've always been stylish. I've been struggling to really express the more mature, evolved me. These maxi skirts are gorgeous, and inspiring!
