So following on from my last blog on my latest love of the jumpsuit, as promised here’s a few suggestions on how to style one.
First up & confession time…….I’m currently writing this post while flying out on hols so have yet to wear my jumpsuit ‘for real’ & instead have taken a few quick pictures before we flew out on how I plan to style mine. Hopefully by the time we return from our hols I'll have worn it at least a couple of times & fingers crossed may have even caught the odd ray or two!!!
So I’ve started with a picture of just my Zara Jumpsuit on it’s own, so you can see exactly what it looks like before my inner magpie has added the bling & accessories. Of course it looks just fine like this without the addition of a single thing. But one of the main reasons I chose to go for a plain black one is because it also makes it easier to personalise & make it your own. Which is always a benefit when buying something off the high street as of course there’s the chance you’ll bump into someone wearing the exact same one or similar, but by adding accessories the chances of seeing someone wearing the exact same accessories as well are slim. Although of course now I’ve said this, the chances of this now happening to me have probably greatly increased!!!!
Now if you’re not an accessories junkie like myself you may just want to add a few minimal pieces, so in this second picture I’ve opted to add a few metallic accessories which I think always look great when paired with black.
I’ve added a gold plaited belt from Banana Republic, my block heeled ballet shoes from Zara for a bit of height & my J Crew classic pave bracelet. Of course you could just as easily make the accessories silver or a bright pop of colour, maybe red or even yellow.
As you know I’ve got a love of all things gold at the moment & I just feel it adds that little something to the black jumpsuit. Plus if you’re feeling a little self-conscious at wearing an all in one you’ll find the belt helps break it up & makes you feel as if you’re wearing separates.
OMG as I’m typing this blog a horrible though has just crossed my mind…..what happens when I need the loo?!!!! I had sooooo not thought of this & although my jumpsuit has a side zip from just under the bust to the hip it also has buttons to do up at the back which when trying on I just got hubby to do. But seeing as my son is now WAY TOO old to accompany me to the loo it looks like either I’m going to have to do some seriously leg crossing (thank goodness it’s baggy on the tum so people won’t see the old bladder protruding) or take an absolute age in the toilet trying to do the buttons up from behind which run from the top to my lower back. Now this in itself will be easier said than done but if there’s only the one loo people are SO going to be wondering what I’m doing in there….oh my I’m already cringing!!!!
Okay deep breath, I’ll just have to cross this problem when I need to…..I so love my jumpsuit that I’m not going to let it put me off….even if it could prove interesting!!!
Right swiftly moving on....for my second look I’ve added my New Look pendant & a denim jacket to the gold accessories, which I think dresses down the outfit & makes it perfect for wearing on an every day basis.
Style Three
Denim Jacket - Zara
Jumpsuit - Zara
Necklace - New Look
Belt - Banana Republic
Bracelet - J Crew
Shoes - Zara
Next up Bet has barged her way into this outfit with the additional of a large leopard print scarf, some chunky bracelets & my leopard print stud sandals. I really think flats look great teamed with the jumpsuit, which is a good job really seeing as I’ve decided to be ‘sensible’ on our hols & not bring any heels…..although saying that I’ve already had to add a plaster when waiting in departures as my sandals had managed to cause a blister on my heel….can you believe it & they're not even new!!!
Again this outfit is just perfect for a dressed down daytime look & personally you won’t be surprised to hear that I don’t think you can ever go wrong by adding a bit of leopard print to a plain black outfit!!
Style Four
Jumpsuit - Zara
Scarf - Zara
Bracelets - Banana Republic
Leopard Print Studded Sandals - Zara
Of course while on our hols I’m hoping it’s going to be far too hot to want to roll out a scarf so for my next look I’ve kept the studded leopard print sandals & just added a chunky gold necklace.
Style Five
Jumpsuit - Zara
Necklace - Massimo Dutti
Bracelets - Mango & Banana Republic
Leopard Print Studded Sandals - Zara
If you wanted to add a bit more detail you could also add a wide belt. So to tie in with the studs on my sandals I’ve added my H&M elasticated studded one. Which you will probably have noticed I practically live in. It’s such a great belt for adding to an outfit & being elasticated means it always fits & I find it just helps to finish an outfit off & tie separates together. I can’t tell you just how useful I find this kind of belt in fact the other night while getting the clothes ready for the hols I altered another elasticated studded belt that was just that little bit too big for me. So after prising off some of the studs & sewing the elastic part of the belt together to make it smaller I’ve hopefully now got have another belt to wear for a bit of variety!!
Style Six
Jumpsuit - Zara
Necklace - Massimo Dutti
Leopard Print Bracelet - Banana Republic
Studded Belt - H&M
Print Studded Sandals - Zara
Next up & again it’s more gold accessories (see I don’t lie when I said I’m currently gold obsessed!) & my new Zara leather biker jacket, which I managed to bag in the sale. I’m absolutely delighted with this as I’ve been looking for a leather biker jacket for a good twelve months now but hadn’t found one I liked the look of once I tried it on. But this one must have been meant to be as not only do I still love it when on, it was also heavily reduced & it’s made from the most glorious soft quilted leather that I’m sure will be one of my staples come the winter.
I’ve also teamed it with the gold hi-tops that I’d also been admiring from a far for a while from Zara & again managed to get once reduced.
Style Seven
Jumpsuit - Zara
Leather Biker Jacket - Zara
Necklace - Mango
Bracelets - Banana Republic & Mango
Gold Hi-tops - Zara
My last two styles are a variation on a theme. Now as you’ll already know I love a great little jacket/blazer & a jumpsuit is a great addition to team one of my many jackets with for a more smarter/evening occasion. Sling on a stunning pair of heels & a clutch & you’re good to go in my opinion.
Now of course any colour jacket is going to look great with black but I particularly like the Chanel style for teaming with a pair of heels for evening. Although I’d also like to try mine with my black tuxedo & maybe my sequined Mango cardi too.
For the first outfit I’ve added some plain black court shoes with my cream Massimo Dutti jacket, a thin black studded belt (which can just about be seen) & some J Crew bling.
Sequinned Cardigan - Mango
Necklace - New Look
Blue Camisole - Zara
Cigarette Jeans - Zara
Gold Sandals - Zara
Style Eight
Jumpsuit - Zara
Necklace - J Crew
Jacket - Massimo Dutti
Studded Belt - New Look
Shoes - Zara
I’ve then swapped the jacket in my second outfit for a red boulce jacket, some red leopard print court shoes & some statement pearls.
Style Nine
Jumpsuit - Zara
Necklace - Zara
Jacket - Zara
Red Leopard Print Shoes - Zara
So there you have a few ideas on how to get the most wear out of your jumpsuit. Of course when the weather’s glorious it’s perfect for just wearing with a statement necklace but come the darker & cooler months add a jacket & you can not only transform your look it also means you can wear it all year round so in my eyes a double result!!!
And finishing with a quick round up of what I’ve been wearing for the first few days of our holidays, starting with my outfit for travelling.
Outfit One
Sequinned Cardigan - Mango
Necklace - New Look
Blue Camisole - Zara
Cigarette Jeans - Zara
Gold Sandals - Zara
So what do you think? Have I given you any new ideas for what to pair with your jumpsuit or perhaps I’ve missed the most obvious choice?!!! I’d love to hear your thoughts & know which outfit you like best together with of course any other ideas on how to style it.
Right I’m off to go & catch some more rays & chillax just that little bit more. Have a good few days & I’ll be back at the weekend with a blog on what I’ve been wearing so far on holiday. xx
