Firstly I'm about to say two words that I never thought would leave my mouth & secondly before you read any further I promise you I haven't lost the plot entirely!!!
Now before I say these two words I feel I must prepare you for a shock & so I'm not held liable for any injuries incurred for any laughing out loud after reading these two words, ask that you're sitting down before reading any further.
Okay now that the necessary safety checks have been put in place here they are....Helen Flanagan!!!! Yes Helen Flanagan a.k.a Rosie from Coronation Street...today I'm stealing her style!!!!
So while you're rolling around on the floor laughing & before you stop reading any further let me explain. Firstly I'm not wearing some inappropriate boob exposing number, nor am I (you'll be pleased to know) doing some pointless provocative pouting selfie....good lord can you imagine, it would not be a pretty sight & I don't think I'd even have it in me to pout or be provocative, so rest assured no nightmares are to follow!!
As you can probably tell from my comments Ms Flanagan is not my normal style icon....far from it but credit where credits due (or perhaps credit to her stylist) a recent picture of Helen made me hit the button on an item of clothing I've been deliberating about for a while now & that's the Zara skort (cross between a skirt & pair of shorts...hence the name skort!).
I know I'm seriously late to the party & of course my brain may have been slightly fried by all the lovely glorious weather we've been having but I'm thinking that the skort can be rocked this autumn & winter too....okay I WILL need to invest in some serious thermal tights but hey I'm willing to give it a try!
So before I show you how I envisage wearing my skorts here's the picture of Helen that made me decide to finally go for it.
I really love this look (& this is before hitting the wine!!!), especially the simplicity. Plus add in some statement jewellery & I think this could look pretty cool & if you leave the serious platform skyscrapers out the equation then I think it would look less WAG & more me!
Now for the summer Zara did some amazing coloured skorts, which I'm kicking myself for not investing in. However, luckily for me all is not lost as due to their popularity they have brought out neutral shades for winter for those of us that are mad enough to be buying shorts for autumn/winter!!
So first up is the grey pinstripe skort, which has that slightly corporate feel.
Zara Pinstripe Skort
Or for those of us brave enough to wear white in winter then there's these.
Or in White
Or for a really versatile pair then there is of course the black version.
Zara Black Skort
And finally a slightly different design in a royal blue shade
Alternative Zara Skort
As I mentioned above in my eye the black pair are going to be the most versatile...easy to dress up or down, can be worn all seasons & of course go with a great many items in most people's wardrobe, including my own hence the purchase of this colour!
And to tempt you further into joining me in the madness of wearing shorts in winter (well it's only like a short skirt surely?!!!) here's a few ideas on how I envisage wearing mine.

So what do you think? Have I totally lost the plot by quoting Helen Flanagan as my celebrity style steal or can you see where I'm going with this?
And as proof that I haven't totally lost it & gone all Helen Flanagan, here's what I've been wearing the last few days.

And there you have it....still can't believe I'm quoting Helen Flanagan as my style steal & I may come to totally regret my purchase if we have a really cold & bitter winter but they'll no doubt come in handy come next summer.
So how about you did you buy the skort for summer, or have I or maybe Helen tempted you to invest in some for winter? Perhaps you just don't get the skorts but have found yourself stealing the style of a celebrity whose style you never usually like?
As always I love reading your thoughts & would love to know I'm not TOTALLY loosing the plot!
Have a great Sunday...I'm off to do some standing of the horizontal variety...we've got a family film day with plenty of bubbles (alcoholic & non) & nibbles plus all three of us (four including the dog) crashed on the sofa enjoying being home together before hubby flies off the to States for another week....hey ho Mr DPD hope you're up for a couple of visits next week ;-) x
Jane, the Skort looks fab. I love how you've styled it in look two (yellow top). I've said it before about your outfits, you remind me of Victoria Beckham. Love Liz xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks Liz, I have to admit I'm pretty taken with the yellow top, it's just that little bit different in style & thank goodness it's not too 'cropped'!!! If only I had Victoria's wardrobe & bank balance....then I could do some serious damage lol!!! x
DeleteI'm with Liz, love the yellow top styling:) The skort looks great with ankle boots too - great choices!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rosanna.....let's just hope for a mild winter!! x
DeleteIt is most certainly one of Helen's more stylish looks and I think you look fab in every picture, love how you have styled the skort x
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharron & luckily for me it looks like the weather is playing ball so I can wear them before the need for tights! x
DeleteYou look incredible, but is this the UK vs South of France thing? Wouldn't all the other mums hate you if you actually wore it out with them for a night out? In South of France of course anything goes (except being dull)!
ReplyDeleteThanks.....I'm not sure of the UK vs South of France thing (of course I might be being dumb?!!) can you explain? x
DeleteIn France age is irrelevant, if you have great hair, legs, boobs, whatever it is perfectly acceptable just to go for it and wear clothes that are great on your shape. In the UK, everyone is a little more reticent, no short skirts over 30, cut your hair at 40 etc. so that if you do then wear something that breaks one of the rules, people like to point it out (is it because they don't like it/feel threatened? I've never worked out why).
DeleteI took all maxi dresses to the South of France and then remembered that even in your mid forties, it is perfectly OK to show a bit of flesh over there, as long as it is tasteful. Which yours is by the way, extremely!
Oh okay thanks for explaining...I do think people are getting more experimental with lengths of skirt etc as they approach 40's. Of course there is a fine line of looking great and looking like you're trying to dress younger....but at the end of the day I think if you go with what you makes you feel good you can't go wrong & I love the rules you describe for France a great rule to dress by x
DeleteLol! You look a million times better in the skort than Helen Flanagan!! You are more stylish by far!! Just shows though that inspiration comes from everywhere x
ReplyDeleteAww thanks Michelle, have to admit I did wonder if I was loosing all rationale when I liked her outfit!!! x
DeleteLooks great - I adore the yellow top one and the patterned jacket version. Would it also work with opaques in winter? I love the shape - really flattering x
ReplyDeleteThanks Avril & yes I think they will definitely work with some thick opaques in the winter....I'm stocking up as I type!!! x
ReplyDeleteOh you do make me laugh Jane! You look amazing in the 'skort' & I love how you've styled it! You have an amazing figure & can wear anything well! I'd look like a footballer (not a WAG!) wearing one! ;) Ax
ReplyDeleteAww thanks Andrea, but you most certainly would not look like a footballer in one....go on give them a try! x
