Winter's Coming.......& I Have A Plan!!

I can't believe we've hit the middle of November already, it's crazy where this year's gone & that can only mean one thing.....no not that the Christmas mad frenzy is about to hit us all where we go wild in the aisles on the belief that you can't EVER have enough food in the house!!!!  No, today I'm thinking about the drop in temperatures not to mention the onslaught of frost, icy and dare I say it snow!!!

It hardly seems that long ago to me since we were snowed in by the last batch of snow & I don't know about you but I hate being cold & spending the day dithering.  So this year I've got a cunning plan - yup today I'm talking vests!!!!  Of course I may be on the verge of turning *whispers* forty (less than a month to the big day - whoop whoop!) but that doesn't mean I've totally lost the plot & am going to be clicking the button on some winceyette nightdresses any day soon (hubby I promise that's one midlife crisis I'm not going to have!!!).  But I am going to be investing in some serious thermal tops for this winter.

Now thermals are never going to win the award for sexiest undergarment against something from Agent Provocateur but what they will win awards for is keeping you warm & unless you want to resemble the Michelin Man this winter with all your layers then they're an everyday necessity.  Especially if you're like me & work from home & spend several hours a day without the heating on thinking it's not worth heating the house when it's just you home alone!!!

Now I'd already come up with this thermal plan whilst lying sweating like a pig in Majorca on our summer holidays (oh how that seems like a lifetime ago already!!) so when Damart asked if I they could send me a thermal to review as part of their 60th birthday celebrations, I was delighted to put my plan to the test.

Whenever I hear the word 'thermal' I immediately think Damart as they've always been considered a great UK brand for cosy, warm & quality undergarments.  What I didn't realise was that not only do they sell thermals in the traditional form with various gradings to cover differing temperatures but they also make thermal knitwear too.

So without further ado onto the undies.....firstly you'll be pleased to know I'm not going to be modelling my thermal top as I think it's probably an image you could all do without having to see & halloween has now been & gone & secondly there's a much nicer picture that I've taken from Damart's website.

For me I want my thermal top to have long sleeves (check), a low neckline so that I can wear it under lower necked tops (check) & be long in the body so that it stays tucked in on my back when sitting down (double check).....well I am clocking up the years & you know you start to feel the cold on your back once you start approaching forty!!!!  Now not only does this top tick all my boxes, it's also available in white, natural, blue marl and pink marl so a great variety of colours too.

Now we of course haven't had that colder temperatures yet (although if the next week's weather forecast is to be believed we soon will!!), so to test drive my new vest I decided to up the the stakes & just wear a long sleeved thin shirt over the top.  Of course when I started drying my hair after slipping on my new top under my shirt I'd forgotten how warm a good thermal keeps you & seeing as my top is graded as level three for temperatures -5 to 5 let's just say there was no need to apply any blusher as I'd seriously gone HOT!!!!

In fact after cooling down from my hair drying I can honestly say I spent the day nice & toasty & am certain that with the addition of a layer of some knitwear or thicker shirt this baby is definitely going to be keeping me glowing this winter.  Plus it now means that I can get wear all of my lighter weight clothing throughout the winter even when we've got some serious white blanketing going on.

So what do you think of my new plan to outwit winter?!!!  Are you a fellow thermal wearer?  Perhaps you've already had this particular brainwave last year & have some thermal wearing tips you can pass on.  I'd love to hear of any ideas you have for remaining toasty but stylish once the temperatures start dropping.

Finally around up of what I've been wearing these past few days.

Right talking of keeping warm it's that time of the week when everything in the household stops & we light a fire & settle down to watch a film or two.  Have a great Sunday & don't forget I'd love to hear about any thermal tops that have kept you warm & toasty these past winters not to mention any other tips you might have for keeping warm.  After all with the continual rise of energy prices it's hardly likely that we're all going to be turning the dial up on the old thermostat this winter....one other tip I have found is that a little mid afternoon tipple of Toffee Vodka certainly helps warm the body ;-)

See you in a couple of days.

  1. Oh Jane don't, I buy those for my mum and she is 80! She loves them even though she lives 300 days of the year with the heating on! Actually make that 320 ha ha. I hate being cold but the hot flushes mean that I am totally loving it and getting into a cold bed at night is utter heaven!

  10. Thermals are the way to go & as you say you can wear thinner tops & not just super chunky jumpers all the time! I've worn them for over 10 years after getting one as a pressie one year! I've never looked back! Ax
