OOTD - Keeping It Simple With A New Dress

Morning ladies, I'm keeping things simple with my new Wallis dress I snapped up when they'd recently got one of their promotions on.  In fact it's currently reduced at the moment, to the price I managed to grab it at - £28, which is a real steal!  I just love everythng about it - lightweight fabric that doesn't crease & easy & perfect for simply throwing on of a morning.  I'm seriously considering wearing this to travel on holiday to as it's stylish & comfy & I could simply team with a scarf to add some colour & warmth when we're in the UK (although I did click the button on this Zara beauty last night so if I like it I might wear this instead!).  In fact the dress is so lovely that I was tempted to keep the red version too (see here) but I decided to be sensible!

Happy Friday ladies.  Another busy one for me including a trip to the hairdressers to get the greys covered ready for our holiday & then we're hoping to squeeze a trip in to the cinema tonight to see Mission Impossible.....the chances of me staying awake after several late nights this week is  probably a mission impossible in itself but fingers crossed!

Happy wine o'clock & hopefully you've got bright blue skies too this morning - the perfect way to kick start the weekend :-)

Celebrity Style Steal - Jenna Dewan & WIWT

For this month's style steal I've gone for the outfit as opposed to loving this person's general style.  To be honest I don't know anything about Jenna Dewan apart from the fact she's married to Channing Tatum & the only thing I know about him is he's an actor!  Anyway I digress the reason I picked this look is it's just effortlessly stylish & whilst it would be too warm to wear if we were experiencing scorching hot summer days it's perfect for this cooler weather.  Plus we probably all have most of the components or similar in our wardrobes, which in my eyes makes it the perfect style steal.

So this is the look I'm loving.  I mean can you get a better combo than denim & white lace?!  I think not!  Timeless, stylish & understated equals perfection in my book.

Jenna Dewan

So let's get on with the style steal & starting with the hat.  I love the look of this one from Warehouse.  A gorgeous dusty pink that would also be great to wear in autumn & winter.  I can so see this looking stunning worn with a navy or soft grey blazer & its a fab alternative to an umbrella come the wetter months.

Warehouse Fedora Hat

For the top I've tried to find something that is as close a match as possible & this Zara one seems a pretty close copy, although I'm not sure how cropped it would be at the front in real life.  But this kind of look would work with so many different styled white tops - from a classic white shirt, to a boho styled kaftan or a simple cami - it's a colour combo that's always going to look fabulous.

Zara Guipure Lace Top

I've picked these cropped skinny jeans from Mango to compliment the top as they've got just the right amount of distressing without exposing any skin & being cropped would make the outfit look that little bit more summery.  Plus they can also be worn in the winter months with longer boots & don't get me started on the shade of blue.  This kind of colour denim gets me reaching for the 'buy me' button everytime as it looks just lovely in the winter teamed with soft greys, navy & black not to mention winter whites.

Mango Cropped Skinny ISA Jeans

Finally turning to the boots, which of course is something we hope we're not wearing too much of during the summer but these babies are stunning & would make a great investment ready for autumn & hey on hotter days a simple pair of tan sandals will look just as lovely.

H By Hudson Suede Ankle Kiver Beige Boots

Finally here's what I'm wearing today.

My Midlife Fashion, Leopard Print, Animal Print, Boden, Zara, Crystals, Distressed Denim

So what do you think?  Is this a look you particularly love or do you try to avoid jeans at all costs during the summer prefering to get the legs out in skirts & dresses?  I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Finally THANK YOU to everyone who voted for me in the Bonprix wedding outfit competition, I'm delighted to say that I won! Wow still can't believe it but thank you for taking the time to vote :-)

Have a fab day & a quick heads up that Hush have now launched their final reductions with more than 80% off selected items in their sale (see here) & there's 24% off at Wallis for today only click here so get shopping!  If you're looking for a simple dress I'm delighted with this one that I've recently clicked the button on.

The Fab 40s Do Leopard Print!

So this month it was my turn to decide what the 'Fab 40s' should style & despite thinking of a few different themes I just knew deep down that I'd have to pick leopard print.  After all I have a HUGE weakness for a bit of animal print & my inner 'Bet' was screaming to be let out!

Of course being a leopard print addict I have a fair few pieces to choose from ranging from shoes to bags to scarves to a pair of trousers & even a maxi skirt.  But after a bit of thought & in the interests of getting my 'Bet' fix I decided to go with a full on leopard print vibe & bring my maxi skirt to play.

Now I had planned on just teaming the skirt with a simple cami & some layered delicate chain necklaces but unfortunately summer seems to have disappeared & seeing as temperatures have dropped I've also thrown on my leather biker jacket for warmth & finished the look with a simple black tie belt to pull the look together.

So what do you think, are you a lover of a splash of leopard print?  Do you like me, think it can add that little bit of interest to an outfit & like to occasionally take a walk on the wild side, or is it a step too far outside of your comfort zone?  As always I'd love to hear your thoughts.

See you tomorrow.

Talking Straw Baskets & WIWT

If you're anything like me you'll have a small basket collection growing from baskets either bought before or during your holidays.  I don't know what it is about summer time & holidays but I just can't resist adding to the collection despite hubby reminding me of the 3 or 4 currently sat at home that hardly ever get used!

Of course we all know the benefits don't we.....perfect for using as hand luggage when travelling on your hols & ideal for lugging everything down to the pool/beach & now 'shopping' bags have become a fashion accessory even useful once back home & filling with groceries too or for carrying the essentials needed on a family day out/picnic.

So in case you've got a straw sized hole in your wardrobe, I thought today I'd take a look at what's currently out there on the high street - apologies if any of the sales ones featured have sold out but it's impossible to know how many are left in stock.

Starting firstly with this navy one from John Lewis.  I love the simplicity of this design & if you wanted to pimp it up you could so easily add a pom pom key ring, like the one I've made here or even edge with pom pom trim.  Or & this is what I'd be tempted to do, you may have seen on various social media feeds flat baskets like this with various words stitched on in large letters such as 'love' & 'smile' well I reckon if you brought some bright coloured raffia thread you could embroider or even stitch with a simple running stitch your own motive.

John Lewis Straw Shopper

Or if you fancy something less traditional John Lewis also do this great monochrome patterned basket, which again could be made a little bit more individual with the odd pom pom or tassel.

John Lewis Straw Grab Bag

More traditional with this next straw shopper & these colours just say summer holidays to me.

Nali Large Straw Shopper

Or for a great neutral New Look have two fab metallic straw bags.

New Look Metallic Straw Bag

New Look Gold Metallic Straw Beach Bag

Now these next few baskets I hope are still in stock for anyone looking to click the button as they're lovely & a great price now they've been reduced.  I think the first one is my favourite colourway but to be honest I wouldn't turn any of them down, I just can't believe these are from J Crew & haven't been snapped up!

J Crew Striped Straw Market Tote

J Crew Colourblock Straw Market Tote

J Crew Straw Market Tassel Tote

Or if you prefer something a little bit more traditional then I've found a couple of fab monochrome striped ones.

Mango Striped Straw Bag

Gap Stripe Straw Tote

And finally if you want all out colour then Accessorize has this great straw basket that even comes with a handy pouch attached to the handle - perfect for all the essentials & no more rummaging to the bottom trying to find your wallet or room key!

Accessorize Straw Basket Bag

So there you have my picks of the best currently on the high street.

Back to today & here's what I'm wearing.

So anyone seen anything to tempt them, or have you got an old faithful that comes out each year?  Or perhaps you refuse to be tempted before going on holiday so you can see what beauties you can find once you're there.  As always I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Right I'm off to start thinking about our holiday & all the things I need to do before we go away, which seeing as it is now tipping it down with rain will be the perfect distraction for this miserable weather.

Hope you all have a lovely Sunday.

WIWT - Chiffon & Denim

First Saturday with no karate run so a lazy morning & a visit to a sports therapist who I'm hoping will sort out a niggling sore back which I've been putting up with since the end of January.  Then we're off out to complete a few errands before a late lunch & trip to the cinema to see Ant Man.

Keeping things nice & simple & teaming my new chiffon top with some distressed denim with a jacket, which I was hoping I wouldn't be needing but looking at the weather I'm thinking it's going to be a necessity.

Piccing The Answer To Many A Question & WIWT

Have you ever seen a picture of something, fell head over heels in love with it only to then spend many an hour trawling the internet in an attempt to find that exact item or similar?  Yup we've all been there haven't we & if you're anything like me you'll become obsessive & think it will take 'just one more click' before you track said item down.

Take my obsession with accessories - a game changer to many a plain & ordinary outfit.  The right accessory really does have the ability to transform your look & make you stand out from the crowd.  Right now I'm all about the statement clutch - the perfect accessory to add some personality to my outfits & a fantastic 'must have' for taking away on holiday.

I recently posted the below picture of such a clutch, that gained a lot of interest on Instagram but sadly the bag was already sold out & I didn't know of a close alternative to suggest to those of you who were looking for something similar.

My Midlife Fashion, Zara, Hipanema, Tapestry, Marks and Spencer, Boho

However all that's about to change thanks to Piccing - a fantastic online community with over 80 million users that in a nutsell allows you to upload or share an image, select the items in the picture you like & want to track down & hey presto it will come up with the exact item or similar fantastic pieces & where you can buy them - genius!

Take the above picture, when I uploaded this it came up with lots of lovely alternative statement clutches including the below selection, which would each look equally stunning & help transform a simple outfit & you've guessed it are seriously making me want to 'click' the button.

Moroccan Mirrored Clutch

Ellise Floral Clutch

Printed Linen-Blend Clutch

Printed Snakeskin Clutch

And that's not all, you can also follow other users whose style inspires you, as well as getting great inspiration from just browsing via Piccing's various categories & clicking on images that tempt you along the way.

Using my current obsession of a statement bag, I browsed their women's accessories section & found these great images for inspiration on how a statement clutch can really transform an outfit, with each picture reinforcing my belief that the right bag can take an ordinary outfit to extraordinary.

Take this first image of a simple monochrome outfit.  How amazing does the oversized leopard print clutch look?  In my eyes it definitely makes the outfit more eyecatching.

Statement Leopard Print Clutch

Likewise when it comes to this striped hard shell clutch.  Not only are stripes a girl's best friend for adding pattern to a plain outfit or pattern clashing with a print from your clothing, but the texture & colourway are just divine & are guaranteed to add a focus point to a simple outfit, even when teamed with a classic white shirt & jeans.

Statement Stripes Clutch

This next image is a great example of how pattern clashing can be incorporated via your clothing & accessories & can still remain discrete.

Statement Snakeprint Clutch

And this simple grey & black outfit suddenly becomes more interesting with the pop of colour in the red bag.

Piccing

Of course you don't even need to add colour in your accessories.  This below image shows that just by texture & a statement handle an all black outfit can be lifted & given a point of interest.

Statement Black Textured Clutch

And finally for the ultimate statement bag guaranteed to bring the wow factor you're never going to go wrong with a classic Chanel quilted bag.

Classic Chanel Bag

With this in mind I've had to bring one of my statement clutches out to play today & so my bag can do all the talking I've kept things nice & simple.  You can see the image here on Piccing & where you can shop alternative jackets & trainers.
