You're The One That I Want

So can you guess from the title what today's post is all about???  If you add the words 'ooh, ooh, ooh' does that help???

Yup that's right I'm talking faux leather figure skimming trousers today, not quite the shinny lycra numbers sported by Sandy & co in Grease but similar trews yes!

So hands up who owned a pair of leather trousers in the nineties?!!!! I trust I'm not alone is saying I indeed owned a black leather pair & with the current trend for leather or faux leather trousers that is currently doing the rounds wished I'd never let them go.....of course the fact that I probably wouldn't be able to now fit into said trews is another story....it just goes to show you should never throw anything away as it's bound to make a comeback but seriously if I did that we'd need a bigger house!!!

Having invested in wax jeans last winter I'd been thinking of perhaps going one step further & getting more of a faux leather pair this season, especially as you can get some amazing faux leather pieces that could almost past for the real mccoy.  On top of this factor in the fact that they seem to be EVERYWHERE this autumn & the fact that I'm about to hit the big one.....well it's just one of those things that's simply going to be!!! Plus of course I think they look A-MAZING with a fab blazer (of which I have a few ;-) ) and a silk shirt.  So with party season fast approaching they're sure to get a great deal of wear & breathe new life into my collection of tops & jackets.

However, whilst I'm totally loving the trend I have yet to try any of this style trouser on & one thing that is worrying me is the fact that I'm not the most patient of people when trying to get in & more importantly out of clothes.  If clothing can't go on & off easily then I'm not interested as it just sends my claustrophobic self into meltdown & I'm thinking that these trews may be like having to shoehorn yourself into a wetsuit of which I have not nor never intend to try.  Of course lycra being lycra I'm hoping this kind of trouser is as easy to shimmy into as a pair of skinny jeans but before I muster the courage to try a pair on here's a round up of the slippery little suckers that are currently tempting me on the high street.

Starting with Zara, who have a few pairs in the offering, some of a combination variety but if I'm going to go for this trend I kind of think that I'm best just jump head first & get a pair that are made from the one fabric.

So the first pair I love are described as leggings....which I must admit I wouldn't normally dream of going out in but these look great on the website & exactly the kind of trouser I'm looking for.  Okay I'd have to always wear them with a longer length shirt/jumper (otherwise two words spring to mind & one of them is camel!) but I love the look & length of these & they're not going to break the bank so if it turns out to be a pre-forty autumn crisis I won't have lost much.

Zara have some great synthetic trousers in at the mo & this next pair with zipped ankles also look great.

Should you however, prefer a trouser as opposed to a legging, which will give you more versatility from a point of view of being able to wear shorter tops or shirts tucked into your trousers then I also love these coated skinnies from Zara too.

Moving away from my first love & onto a brand which is fast becoming another true love of mine, Mint Velvet & these faux leather leggings look truly divine.  I have to admit that if I'm going to be bold enough to go down the faux leather legging path then these would have to be the ones I try first as they look amazing from the pictures on the website.  Plus with a brand that has comfort & glamour at the forefront of it's designs if I'm going to be able to pull the look off then these beauties are going to be the ones to help me achieve it without looking as if I'm an extra from Grease or a woman approaching forty & desperately trying to cling onto her youth.

Another pair that have also caught my eye are theses treggings from Dorothy Perkins, now it's been a while since I brought any clothing from Dorothy Perkins but I've heard good things about their clothes in recent months & these treggings look great.

Finally finishing with the leather effect pair from M&S, which lets face it can generally be relied upon for quality & if Marks & Sparks are rocking the trend it's got to be okay for us soon to be forty year olds to join in too right?!!!

Finally a round up of what I've been wearing these past few days.

So there you have my pick of the leather effect trousers/leggings on the high street that have caught my eye.  Are you tempted to join me in this trend or is this a step too far into the 'Grease' territory for you?

As I've written this post I seem to have talked myself more & more into the trend & have also come to realise they'd be a great staple for some great outfits for celebrating the big milestone I'm shortly to reach....well a girl's got to have a few celebrations for such an occasion...no?!! And of course once I've got the celebrations planned they'll then be the question of what to wear & I'm thinking those Mint Velvet beauties would certainly ensure I started my forties off with style.....what do you think?

  1. I think you should definitely get some. They'd look fab on you. I'm still undecided. I've got the coated skinnies, but as I'm definitely on the wrong side of 40 at this stage, I think I'm possibly a bit 'long in the tooth' for faux leather jeggings. You on the other hand, would rock the look!

  3. I couldn't manage these, I think my legs are the wrong shape. You, however, will look stunning in them. I am content in my 'red boot' and 'cognac coloured boot' obsession with a bit of 'red jean' thrown in!! I love you in the tweed and star scarf too. xx

  5. I did own leather trousers in the 90's! Thought I was the bees knees in them too, after loosing baby weight after baby number two (who is now18!). Then baby three came along.... Hey ho. I did go for the Zara wax black jeans last winter and they will be making another appearance this year. I tried some black leather look trews from Next last week but the fit wasn't right. I did treat myself to the Mint velvet leather panel skirt though. Delicious. Love your outfits here. jeans are great. Love from Life's Luxuries www.nursekate1.blogspot.co.uk

  6. Intrigued by the M&S ones!! I have some jersey and faux leather leggings from Zara last year, and their coated trousers are great. I can vouch for the DP pair too - they sit quite high so are really comfy with no muffin top! xx

  8. You could totally pull these off Jane! I have a H&M faux leather pair but they're a bit uncomfortable so don't wear them much. I have orderd a waxy coated pair from H&M recently and a maternity wet look pair from new look, so I think I've ticked all the boxes apart from actually buying a real leather pair!!
